Thank you - she seemed to have a good first day. Thankfully!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0

Hope DD settles in well - whats happening about her working abroad?
Have a good day0 -
Glad DD had a good first day it is so hard knowing what to do these days my DD after all her problems not surprisingly dropped out of college and drifted for a bit but for the last two months has been managing a shop that buys old clothes for cash not the career I had in mind for her but she has blossomed whilst doing it and has never been happier so it just shows that all the planning in the world doesn't necessarily mean its right for them and it has taught me a few lessons too I am sure DD will find her niche

Yes, DT, it is a case of doing what is right at the time - and as you say, no amount of planning takes into account the way we feel as time goes by. DD always expected to go to Uni, but things change, and she suddenly became very unhappy at college, so needed to make changes herself one way or another.
The job she started yesterday is just temporary, as it is maternity cover. It will be likely to have finished by the time she goes abroad, so that is still ok. If she gets something permanent in the meantime, the work abroad will just be taken out of annual leave, much the same as any pre-booked holiday. I was nervous for her as it is an office job in a very good office in town, but she seemed to enjoy it, and hopefully it will build up her confidence for the future.
She is also working at a shoe shop at weekends, which she loves, so can always ask for extra hours there in due course if she needs.
One way or another, she has a good grounding in hard work, knows that things don't pay for themselves, and that there is a lot to be said for making your own way.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Do WE get discount.
I was shoe shopping in Norwich with DD at the weekend - she wants Santa to bring her Ugg boots (I am buying one foot, exOH buying the other :rotfl:). Is your DD working in the shop where they all wear shorts - if so, tell her to have a word with some of the girls - not a good look :eek::eek:A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Why on earth would they all wear shorts in a shoe shop?? <boggles>
Good for your DD Hypno and yours too DT :T :T Can be difficult going against family/society expectations if nothing else, but as you say, a good grounding in hard work never goes amiss, and it's great that they can be self reliant (partially if not fully!) at such an early ageMy sister dropped out of college 3 weeks before her exams to work in a coathanger recycling factory (!) - can't say she enjoyed that (and, in fact, I believe she was sacked for doing unspeakable things with a supervisor :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:) but after that she got a very junior office job and worked her way up to being a conveyancer. You do indeed just never know how these things will turn out (especially not since she now has 3 boys under 5 and isn't planning to go back to work at all in the foreseeable future!)

Is it only me that thinks this may be sensible?
Surely they are better than a skirt when you are bending down at peoples feet all day?
Or are they very short shorts?:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0
