Hi all,
Its been months since I posted. Please may I join you again?
Been having a read through the last few days and its great to see so many people doing well.
Hi to Maman, Miss P and Shaggy and to all the new names I don't know yet.
I've not been doing well on the AF front. Only had a few days here and there. Time to try again!
Can you put me down for September TF please Shaggy?

Hi Folks!
Its been a while since I posted! Congrats on the arrival of BabyR, MrsR! Go easy on yourself, being a Mum is blooming hard work, I promise it will get easier, hang in there.
We have just got back from our All Inc holiday and I'm proud to say that, despite wearing the magic wristband, I didn't touch a drop of alcohol. I never imagined that it would be possible - it would have been a green light for bingeing for me just a few months ago! I'm so proud of myself and feel that if I can acheive that then I've nailed it - there is absolutely no occasion when I should be able to justify a drink following this. There were moments when I considered having a drink but I opted for lime and soda instead (I have chosen this as my evening drink which sets it aside from all the regular soft drinks that I had during the day).
It was also interesting that we met and spent time with similar minded people - ok, they enjoyed a drink but only had a couple every night that lasted them all night and only drank coffee during the day. They didn't shrink back in shock and fear of an alien when I said that I didn't drink. I wouldn't have dreamed of hanging out with them last year - I'd have thought it strange that they weren't taking full advantage of free booze. I talked to hubby about it and he said that he'd always thought I drank too much but that it was up to me. Though I felt he should of said something at the time I know it would have resulted in an argument so its better that he didn't and that I made the decision myself.
Soo....10th September will be 5 months for me. It feels like a lot longer though!
Thanks again to you all - congratulations on all of your achievements - even lurking on the board is something to be proud of. I couldn't have done it without you.
Much love,
Lala xxx
Whoohoo Lala ! what an inspirational post...well done you & congratulations on 5 months!!
Another lime & soda convert too...:D:D. Its 2 years to the day since I stopped completely & knowing that I could mix myself a lime (gotta be Roses Cordial) & soda(fizzy water) in the evening seems to give me an alternative drink but without the alcohol....I wished I`d known about that drink years ago.
LOL I do have `double` lime soda`s though as I am totally addicted....I now know that I have that kind of personality that needs a habit.
Feels so much like a sunday morning today...I hope everyone has something nice planned.
Take care,
Angiexx0 -

Hello Elantan
I'm epileptic and had been seizure free for 7 years. I had a seizure 5 months ago which came as an utter shock to me. I had to do be really honest with myself about how it had happened after so long and could no longer deny that alcohol is an issue for me. It is very well known that excessive drinking can cause seizures and the one that I had followed a night of heavy drinking (the worst part about it was that it was a "quiet" Saturday night in with hubby - he had a pleasant night an I drank so much I was sick and couldn't stop the bedroom from spinning).
So, I quit there and then - I haven't touched it since the day of the seizure. However, to answer your question, it was harder than I know it should have been if I'd been a "normal" drinker. I felt as rough as a bears bottom every morning when I'd NOT had a drink the night before! Even though I felt rough I noticed that I started to look better (complexion, eyes) and when the morning headache wore off I could concentrate more and had more energy.
I understand what he means about constantly thinking about drinking. This was an issue for me too. Every evening I wondered what I was supposed to do with myself - I was so used to pouring a drink. I had a Kindle from my Mum (an early Birthday present) and ploughed through books on it - I justify buying books for the Kindle because I save so much money through not buying booze. Getting stuck into good books took my mind off drinking - I was used to constantly drinking while watchind tv (it was like a link that went hand in hand).
I have drinks that I enjoy in an evening that are seperate to drinks that I would have in the day. I buy "posh" cordials for night time
I've realised that its Bank Holiday today and I didn't actually think about drinking last night - it would have been a real green light in the past.
I also read Allan Carrs "No more hangovers", I have highlighted some of the things that mean something to me and check through them now and then as a reminder (ie: You can't get drunk if you don't have the first drink; what terrible thing will happen if you never take another alcoholic drink).
Huge congrats to your hubby, what an achievement, yes it gets easier.
