I suppose those who feel rather smug about their own lives might keep quiet amongst others in the real world, but get some kind of "kick" from boasting on an internet forum. Personally, I choose to keep a few things to myself, good and bad. I find it rather interesting that there are those who seem to make assumptions about others, and use them as a kind of "attack". I don't think they realise how childish or stupid it makes them appear. Perhaps they don't care. I have disclosed a few facts about my own personal/financial situation, but only when asked, or when it is really relevant to a debate.
