I find SS pathetically basic - not buy foreign currency at the airport, checking luggage in on-line?
Granny and eggs come to mind. :mad:Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
Pipneyjane - as ever the voice of reason. Thank you for the article - v. interesting . For a start off I would flog the furniture @£120 per month storage -after all they may eventually move into furnished accom. I would be asking Shelter for some advice too...
I did quite like the look of the chocolate Vodka on Superscrimpers and these might make useful gifts ??:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
I have been watching this series as I haven't watched any of the other ones.
I have to say that the most use I get out of it is ideas for Xmas pressies!
I think this programme is actually aimed at people who aren't struggling but are wasting money on unnecessary things such as clothes, chocolate, alcohol etc. The two students were just ridiculous, the one said at the end he will put the money saved on alcohol towards 'business ideas', he just sounded like he didn't have a clue.
I also thought it would have been good to mention the other costs that would be incurred from buying excessive amounts of clothes / alcohol. The girls would need to go out partying A LOT to wear all those clothes and make up and false eyelashes but I don't recall it saying how much they spend a month on that. And the boys again, they would be spending money on outfits for all the nights out they were having.
I'll carry on watching, but I haven't got much actually useful info out of yet...Weight 21/08/12 - 11st 4lb  Target of 10st....

Out of interest are there any statistics for what an average person in the UK spends on alcohol per year?
If there are people who spend 1k a night on drinks then people who spend 11k a year might actually be average. And that may be who this programme is aimed at. Not watched it though so i don't really have any understanding of this show.0 -
For some reason this programme is still not available on 4od. I wonder why?0

It was £11k between them which is about £105 per week each. I imagine a lot of people spend that amount a week, and not just students. It is a serious problem that needs addressing!0 -
ms_london thinking exactly that right now as its a Saturday night so for the next few hours people will be coming home totally wasted, am going to have to shut my window soon and put earplugs in!
£105 a week, i think a lot of people spend more than that! Unfortunately! Medical students have told me they take certain pills that help them get drunk faster so its cheaper, i just found that scary. They should teach how to relax and have fun without getting too drunk. Listening to conversations on nightbuses, people seem to end up spending more than they plan to but they never learn from experience?0 -
Assuming they only have pints of lager (even though they had shots as well on tv), at the usual bar price of £4.50/pt, they're knocking back an average of sixty-seventy-odd units a week. Each.
They're obviously not eating much, as they aren't fat, so pretty much all their calorific requirement and nutrition is obtained from those drinks.
And they told them to buy lots of different spirits and mix them at home.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

Going slightly off topic here, but I know loads of girls who won't eat and will 'save' calories for their nights out...
I don't really drink anymore but used to, but I decided I wanted to buy a house and saving for this was more important to be than spending it on booze, not that it was ever anything like that amount.0 -
I want Alvin Hall back on TV!
Even my kids roll their eyes and tut at Superscrimpers.0
