Paypal Payment Reversal - Help Wanted Urgently

Hello.

Great site & board first of all.
Can anyone help. I am a registered Ebay user who has been trading for what seems like forever (username charjoe). I have tons of positive feedback (100% for buying & selling) . I recently sold a mobile phone to a person in the USA who paid via paypal (used many times as well). PAYPAL sent me an email to say I had been sent a payment. I checked the account and there it was - £126. I without further ado packaged the phone off, international insured signed for delivery.

All was cool until 3 weeks later - I received a mail form PAYPAL stating we had received unauthorised funds & they were freezing the payment. Therefore the account was debited by the same £126.
I was puzzled but gave them the details they asked for & received a further mail yesterday stating they had investigated but had no choice but to refund the buyer her money.

Of course I have emailed asking them why etc as I sold the phone in good faith & sent it off. I have received no details as to their investigation , or any evidence etc.

Can anybody help me on this - have you had any experiences like this???? ANY advice would be greatly appreciated.

This post should also act as a warning to other users re PAYPAL. PLease be careful.

Please help.

  • Thats shocking. I thought paypal was pretty secure. Surely if the buyer is claiming that their account was compromised that paypal would have contacted you and got you to assist in the investigation?

No they have only asked me for posting details. Getting a reply from them is proving a fruitless task.

On doing a search on the net however, this seems to be a common problem - PAYPAL have their own rules & its hard getting in contact with them to discuss.

I checked the site https://www.saynoto0870.com and they have an office in Ireland (2p per minute with CALL18866) sio will call them. Unfortunately its my wifes account so Ill have to wait till she's around.
  • Thats really put me off using paypal now. I use it a lot for transactions, usually around the 50->100quid mark, and i just cant afford to loose that sort of money. :(

    :( That's bad.

Isn't there a Live Chat place you could ask? I'm sure someone asked for help on a topic this week and can't be sure who it was (maybe BargainBabe) mentioned something about it. Seemed useful to whoever was asking for help.
  • That is bad, I've got a similar problem at the moment with a foreign buyer ( http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=285757#post285757 ) and PayPal's policies are quite ridiculous - I've been waiting 3 weeks now and still NOTHING from them.. There are a whole load of complaints at https://www.paypalsucks.com and I would recommend https://www.nochex.com to you for payment processing in future. They are far more seller friendly and have much cheaper fees.

Have you asked the buyer what the problem was

--If I am reading the right sale -
looks like they have purchased phones from UK sellers before- can you ask other sellers if everything went OK

    --
You declared a particular "issue" with this item - is it OK to sell these items on ebay anyway? ( I don't know - but could this give them a get out clause?)

I have emailed the buyer - surprise surprise they have not replied. They were quick enough to email before I sent the phone. I think it was their intention not to apy all along.

The phone was barred - these phones are sold all the time on ebay. It was advertised as such - it was mine & the phone company told me to keep it as it was worthless. I thought Id use my brain & try to make some money (I have been loggong into this site for a while!)

I will try the live chat link later. PAYPAL definately do suck!!!!
