NI is paid straight from your wage packet if you earn over £110 a week. As you are not earning enough to pay any and want to protect your pension rights you might want to keep signing on.
As you say you are a single parent of a child are you claiming child benefit in your name? If so you will be getting NI pension credits Carer's Credits until your child is 12 years old so that may mean you don't need to sign on/

Personally I'd find something as self employed for 1 hour or more per week and pay self employment national insurance of £2.40 per week. It'll save having to go to the jobcentre and as you now have over 16 hours of work you can then apply for working tax credits.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

It bit abit daft to signing on if they don't pay JSA, what the point ? I don't want to go to jobcentre every fortnightly and stressing out with interview and what about my post office job as they might not like me to have time off to attend jobcentre to sign on ?
I never done that before, it all new to me.0 -
Bit confused.....do I still pay NI ????
You get your national insurance credits paid through child benefit and you are 1 hour short for working tax credits, if you can get 1 or 2 hours work somewhere else you are allowed to work 2 jobs and add your hours up.
I know it's a lot though being a single parent.Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -
I just wish Royal mail given me 16 hours instead of 15 hours! Just 60 minutes short is painful and rather daft.0

If you could get another job doing even 1 hour a week you would be over the 16 hour threshold. Any one you know willing to take you on to cover lunchtime for example? Maybe cleaning a local hall? (our village hall is advertising for a cleaner at 3 hours a week maybe something similar near to you?)

Why not ask RM if there will be any possibility of overtime some weeks. Is WTC still calculated on an average basis. You could even explain the situation to RM and ask if they can offer one extra hour per week.
Good luck with it all. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -

I never had any break in any claim, from income support transfer to JSA last year but the advisor say I won't get any job grant or lone parent £250. I don't know why ?0
