How to tempt an ill dog?

Thanks for all the fab ideas. I just knew you were the people to ask! I did her some scrambled eggs the other day but it is expensive if she likes it as she is labrador sized mutt. Never thought of the sardines so will try them. Just cooking some pasta and value meatballs for her supper.
Thankyou very much, your help is very much appreciated and the ideas will keep me going for a while.

I'd then strip the chicken and blend the veggies and the cooking liquid to make a gravy. I'd then return the chicken and add some rice.
When she was properly poorly I used to hand feed her this chicken stew!
Run out of thanks but thankyou! xThe best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T0 -
Our local fish and chip shop ere really stunned by us last time we had a dog on the way out...she liked fish ...so we dutifuly didn't give her chips and broke the fish out of most of the batter and mixed it with small bite mixer (she was a giant dog so a bit like baby food for her
)
My dog in rude health now will not eat the same food too many days in a row, so we give her our dog safe left overs and pour water on dried food...she prefers it as a porridge. Her ''wet meals'' (she gets some raw meals and some biscuit meals) tend to be augmented with dog safe veg.
The other dog eats anything, including the first dog's leftovers!0 -

Sounds just like my pooch! This is part of what makes it hard. She has just eaten Bakers and some leftovers for the last nine years but is now making up for lost time with trying new tastes lol.The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T0 -
Our dog loves braising steak and kidney done with gravy in the slow cooker, Cheese, roasted hearts, scrambled egg, sardines, smoked mackrell. Although my dog is a laborabin and will eat most things."Let your boat of life be light, pack only what you need- A homely home and simple pleasures, one or two friends worth the name, someone to love and someone who loves you, a cat, a dog, a pipe or two enough to eat, enough to wear and a little more than enough to drink, as thirst is a dangerous thing" Jerome k. I would just let her have raw meat? My dog loves nothing more than raw chicken, mince anything.Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

You can get powdered 'convalescent support' sachets from most vets. They are expensive to feed on their own, as a large dog will have a whole sachet or more in one go, but if she likes it you can mix it with something fairly bland like chicken and rice to add a new flavour and extra calories to it.
Does she ever eat dried food? Maybe try soaking the kibble in warm unsweetened soya milk (eg tesco value) until it is soft, then mash it and add other strongly flavoured meaty things, like tinned fish, cooked offal etc.
Try asking at the butcher for cheap or free offcuts and 'inside' bits that you can experiment with.Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -
The irresistable ones for dogs I have had are:
Smoked mackerel, grilled or microwaved, (not as expensive as it sounds) with white bread and butter.
Egg (cooked any way at all), and bacon.
Plain yoghurt, dogs love this, epecially if you let them lick the pot before you put it in the bin.
Any kind of roast on the bone. Something about it having a bone in it means it smells better I think? Don't know why. But roasts with bones works best.
Twix bars if dog is not going to get better. Dogs love them. For a healthy dog these are strictly out because something called therobromine in the chocolate builds up in the dog and poisons them over years. For a dog who doesn't have that kind of time this is largely irrelevant.
Toast, especially cheese on toast.I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)

Just read through the other replies, if you're not alright cooking large quantities of egg then why not give some egg, then when she's finished that offer some fishy cat food for course 2. Cat food has more vitamins than dog food, dogs can live well on it, but not the reverse, a cat will not thrive on Pedigree Chum.I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
