I think your list is lovely - she really is a lucky niece - and my daughter still has the Dunelm throw from her student days.
I know you've got Totes socks, but without going into upsetting detail, the floors in most student places are pretty disgusting, so how about a pretty pair of slippers? Then you don't have to put bare feet on the floor (shudder).0 -

I agree with the choccies coz its good to just curl up sometimes. I have to recommend asdas belgian flaked truffles. They cost about a £1 and they are amazing.
What about some nice lip balm, as an extra. Nivea do great lip pearl and shine stuff. Just a nice little shimmer for your lips. Great for the winter weather. Or a little set of patterned/funky notebooks always handy for the studies.

lol i have to agree those asda chocs are delicious!0 -
Hawkins Bazaar sell these at 6.99
http://www.hawkin.com/rkmain.asp?PAGEID=20670&STK_PROD_CODE=07785
They are called 'photo galleries'. The large one holds 40 6x4 photos in a clear plastic pocket, it is double-sided so you slide the photos in back to back ... and they sell a smaller one too. The small one is 4.99 and holds 22 photos. My children have got them and we've just bought one for the hallway, they love them ... and I would have loved one at Uni too, students do take loads of photos, and these are a little bit different!!That's Numberwang!0 -

She is at university, very bookish & not into trendy music, clothes etc.
How about offering to cook a selection of one person meals for her to freeze on her return?
I think that would have been a very gratefully received present when I was at uni.7 Angel Bears for LovingHands Autumn Challenge. 10 KYSTGYSES. 3 and 3/4 (ran out of wool) small blanket/large square, 2 premie blankets, 2 Angel Claire Bodywarmers0 -
the hot water bottle sounds brilliant - i have had mine for a few years now and it makes me feel like i'm 15 and at home with my mum looking after me when i use it!
sounds like a really generous thoughtful gift.:happyhear0 -
I'm 22 and remember uni fondly. What I would have liked would have been some posh smellies. You know some decent shampoo and shower gel, or some nice bath bombs.
Once you leave halls bathrooms tend to be fine and I remember you just don't have the money to buy those luxories?
A bottle of baileys would have gone down well too.
I agree on the throw, but how about a nice duvet cover, candles etc. Stuff to make the often slightly grotty houses look pretty0 -
I got a book light when i was at uni, which was much appreciated as i did not have a lamp. maybe a magazine subscription with the wh smith voucher. most girls like a bit of heat mag or similar adn they sell them in a little gift box.It only takes a second to say 'Thanks, you just saved me a few quid!'

I'm 23 and at uni and I LOVE my furry throw. It's nice to snuggle under in bed or have over your legs when writing essays! I agree about the book tokens, WH Smiths is rubbish and I usually end up getting loads of vouchers for it which I use on DVDs. Not too useful for my course!
Furry cushions would also go great with the throw. I like the idea of big hot chocolate mugs! Big chunky socks for those cold winter nights in freezing cold halls. Stuff like jumpers, hats, scarves and gloves are always useful for that student chic look.
Instead of candles, maybe get an electric oil burner? My uni confiscates any candles found in halls. Bah!0
