• To set the scene - my partner and I are currently buying a house and planning a wedding so money's tight - I don't go to the hairdressers, always do it at home. More recently, I've been really happy with my hair so I've been using the Clairol Nice n Easy root touch up stuff... which is great and super easy - takes me ten mins for perfect coverage.

Anyways- - violins away!! I was waiting til pay day to dye my hair there in March and had seen all of the adverts for the new L'Oreal Sublime Mousse - thought it looked awesome and was even more delighted to find the exact shade for my hair, a sort of dark almopst slightly purple dark chocolate! LUSH!

Opened the box...thinking it would be the same as practically ALL other hair dyes I have EVER used... that it would take me 10 minutes for coverage... But no - 30 minutes it takes. So already I was a bit disappointed but not to worry - I ewas thinking with that length of time, it was gonna be great colour and top notch coverage.

So timed it perfectly, then jumped in the shower...rinsed it off then got the hairdryer on... already I could notice from running my fingers through my hair with my head upside down that my hair was a lot drier and more straw-like than normal... but I thought perhaps tyhat was just the initial effect and this would go away after a few washes.

So - the hair is now dry... I got the mirror in the bathroom which has the best light right beside the windo... and there they are...gleaming out in the all the glorious sunshine of that lovely Saturday morning..... ALL MY GREY HAIRS... completely in tact, with ZERO coverage!! I was truly gutted, I can't tell you enough... I had my best friend's 30th party that night and had a million n one errands to run that afternoon before the big night...

Honestly I can't trell you how upset I am - I use lots of L'Oreal products which I have loved in the past - I use their Sublinme tanning stuff too which is my favourite and so just presumed the quality of the Sublime Mousse would be jst as top quality.

I am really upset - my hair is disastrous now - so dry and brittle.

Anyways - I went to Tescos to get my USUAL Clairol roots touch up stuff...

what can I say... am just sooo gutted!!

But, I mean, the colour I can get over - like I said - I covered it over... it's not that that upsets me - it's the fact that my hair is lifeless, dull, dry and feels like it's been stripped of any shine I had (everyone always told me I had really shiny hair!!).

Has anyone else had a similar experience and does anyone know how to make a more formal complaint to L'Oreal? I have never written to a company with a formal complaint and have no clue how to do so!! But I feel so strongly about it that I am just gutted :-(

Thanks in advance for anyone's help

Really sorry that it's been such a bad experience for you. I can imagine how gutted you are.

Unfortunately, from what I can tell from reading other reviews of this product on various websites, other people have had similar experiences. If you're on Facebook, you'll see that there are a few complaints on the official "L'Oreal Paris UK: Beauty Confidential" page. With complaints, their advice there is always to call their experts on 0800 0304 031. It seems that they will probably ask for before & after photos to follow up this type of complaint and then, if satisfied, will usually offer you some sort of compensation in vouchers. You could just call them up straight away, in the first instance, but if I were you I'd put something in writing, either posting it to their Facebook wall or emailing them at beautyconfidential@uk.loreal.com . If you're not happy with their response, keep at them until you are! They will definitely already be aware that a significant proportion of product users are having less than satisfactory results so don't let them fob you off by suggesting that it must be a one-off isolated case.

Best of luck to you x

I wanted to add my voice to the comments above. I have just used the mousse (shade 53 - radiant golden brown) and am totally gutted with the result. I followed the instructions to the letter and have a head full of exactly the same colour hair as I had before with all my lovely grey hairs shining through. This is a total waste of money/a coupon. If you look on Boots etc websites the response is the same.

I have complained to L'Oreal and they have asked me to send back the box and the colour bottle. They mumbled something about grey hair sometimes 'suddenly' becoming resistant to hair dye but I managed to stop that one in its tracks!

Well I began with the dark blonde which ended up dark brown. I complained & got a £10 voucher (Although I did have to put £2.75 towards the vouchers) from Perry, & he told me what to buy to get it back to blonde. I put the perfect blonde pre-lightener on first (Perry said it would go yellow & it did), then the No 10 Excellence colour. It was supposed to go blonde but it remained yellow  I rang Perry again & I had to get cheeky & ask if there was any vouchers :o He said he'd send me an ash blonde colour & he did. The colour had just burst open when it arrived so I stuck it on right away. I'm now back to my blonde :D I'm not really bothered as it was free.

But you should be bothered! Free or not, it's given you a completely different result in the first place - a dark blonde ending up dark brown! Then hair remaining yellow... people have had awful experiences with these products.
Hopefully these new foam formulations will now quietly disappear from the market. 8/10 new products fail and these deserve to!

I shouldn't worry no one died! The way I look at it is that we took our chances, if you look on the back of the boxes it does show you exactly what colour you're hair will be.
