AA 1yr fixed savings at 3.4% any good?

Might give that a go. Not sure if it needs to be accessed within a year though.

Not going with Santander as there internet banking is not as safe (hackers able to record all three passwords through keystrokes).

Rather not save 38k online to be honest, but that would mean sacrifciing a %.

Be aware that they are dropping the top tier with 4% interest, I have started a thread in the banking forum.
I went in to open three accounts this morning and was told they are dropping the top tier from April 1st ( that might be for opening a new account) but as from June they will no longer pay it to anyone, too many people have jumped on the bandwagon and they want to look after people with current accounts with less money in them, they will get 1.5% and 3% for up to £5,000
Where does this news come from? :eek:Their website still says 4% and aren't they now supposed to write and advise of any changes to interest rates - I have had nothing :( thanks

Lloyds have until 27 April to tell existing customers as the changes are being implemented on 27 June. Link from Chadsman on the banking thread - http://www.easier.com/86573-lloyds-tsb-vantage-current-account.html

Where else can you get 3.14% net on savings??. grrrr this country is a joke interest rates need to go up!!

You're being so selfish! Think of all the people who are currently struggling to pay their mortgage despite 350-year historic low interest rates? What will they do when interest rates go up? Try thinking of someone else for a change!!!!1!!11!1!!!ONE!

You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.
  • It would be of interest to hear if they raise any issues with you. It seems odd that Lloyds have been running these Vantage accounts since about 2005 and they have only just started getting sniffy about the way they are operated. Perhaps only MSE-ers are using these accounts as savings accounts and they have only just realised it's happening.

I was accepted without any problems, account opened and funded, surprisingly my old Internet account was re-enabled as well.

I wonder once the new £5k limit comes in how many accounts you can have. I have 4 @7K each...so with the total balance of £28k...will I be able to open a 5th to soak up £5k from the outstanding £8k?....LLoyds don't seen to be saying anything at the moment.

I very much doubt it - you are now limited to only 3 per person, so I wouldn't attract attention to yourself by trying to open another account, they might close one of your existing accounts.

Well you might try it: What about people who are trying to live on savings interest to supplement state pensions that keep them cold and below the poverty line and maybe living in rented accommodation?

Yes I do feel sorry for people who are struggling, however a lot have simply borrowed far too much without really thinking could they really afford it if rates did go up. I know so many people who have overstretched without thinking things through properly.

However, I have far more sympathy for those who have scrimped and saved for their retirement, who have gone without during their lives to save up for their retirement and now are finding that they cannot live of the income from their savings.
