i've also read that you need to seal the outside too???SPC 0370

Seal the outside how?!? You don't have to do this.
The fire required would be rather unsafe.0 -
Light a small fire inside it with small sticks etc, not too hot.
Once thats done......fill with earth and use as a fancy flower pot.
The things are useless, they look super cool on yuppie/super trendy people's patios but are, for all intents and purposes, a waste of space.
Just get a decent BBQ (NOT gas) or better still a Smoker/BBQ, something like a ProQ or Brinkmann. You then get heat, a smoker and/or a barbie. Get them cheap mackarel from the shops and smoke them.......lovely. I did a pulled pork joint last weekend. Its was superb. The DWP = Legally kicking the Disabled when they are down.0 -
Why are they are waste of space? They are far more movable than a BBQ and the
Flame from a chimnea log is nicer to look at and gives out more light that BBQ coals.0 -
i've never been near one when it has been lit. but the ones i've seen in peoples gardens do look nice.
but i'm still torn between one of these and a fire pit.SPC 0370 -
I used our chimenea last night before dinner with friends, burns hot, we all sat round with a bottle of red, lovely.0

Sounds like a nice evening! :-)0

I tend to agree with " sitting next to the fire pit with a glass of red " must be summat prime evil because for me there is no other finer way of relaxing in the evening ( in the nice weather ) . i often wrap a potato in tin foil and bung that on the bottom , Mmmmm , can't beat it !!0
