Hmmm.. Generally speaking, if you are paying by Direct Debits your policy will be automatically renewed unless you inform your insurers that you do not wish this to happen, who do you insure with out of interest?0

If the FOS get enough complaints it will be viewed as a trend and the FSA will get involved. The FSA leans on the ABI and voila. We cannot dictate to private companies what they do.
We don't dictate to airlines, restaurants, pubs etc. and we cannot dictate to insurers.
If you go to a restaurant you check what's on the menu and if you go to a pub you check what they have before ordering, you don't insist they all offer the same because you can't be bothered to look !! :-)
I didn't suggest we, as customers, can dictate to the providers. Just that if it was done by all providers, or no providers, it would make life easier all round.

It hurts but these things happen...put it down to experience. Insurance has gone up for everyone, so dont worry too much you probably wont notice too much of a difference. Gone are the days one would get away with these things, with a ticking off assuming they believed your claims to be genuine.
Pay the fine, accept the points move on.0
