A moan re flight price fluctuation

I'm just posting to sound off really, I know there's nothing I can do but I just feel so annoyed:mad:

I've just booked our flight tickets for our family holiday to Malta, I'd been checking the prices (with Air Malta) for a few weeks before and they'd been the same, no change so we went ahead and booked - we're going in July at the start (or just before) schools break up so wanted to get in early before the prices rose (oh, the irony!).
I booked for 5 adults and 1 child and it came to £198 for each adult so over £1k for all of us. Some members of our party asked me how much they owed us so I logged back in a couple of hours later to get the prices (they didn't show up on the email confirmation) and imagine my horror when I saw the prices had changed - DOWN! Not only slightly down but by over £100 for an adult return:eek: The total for all of us now came to just over £700!!!!
I am aware that prices can go down as well as up but I've never seen a drop of this amount and I got really upset because I'd just spent £500 more than if I'd waited a couple of hours - and we could've used that money!
As I said, I know there's nothing I can do but I hoped a rant here might make me feel a little better:(

Is it for exactly the same flights and inflexible conditions?
Some of their cheaper flights from London are night flights.

Did you book Saver or Flexi fares? Saver fares on some flights are only released nearer the flying date.

Call me what you like, I was a bit "tiddly" when I chose my username

When you went back in to check the price did you search for 1 person. There may have only been 4 seats at the lower fare (or possibly only 1) so when you search for more than 4 then it quotes them all at the next fare rather than 4 x £100 + 2 x £198. If you search again for 6 people what fare does it show

Ooh harsh;) Each to their own, we like Malta!:p

    @cactusdust - not a quote I'd expect from an M.S.E'r!:)

They were saver prices so nothing to be done, I just wanted a bit of a moan really.
It'll teach me to go back to a site once I've paid my money though!

I think that M**** is the ultimate Marmite holiday destination.
For me, it was a place to which I will never return (in our house, it is still referred to as "the Island that begins with the letter M such was the horrendous holiday that we had there :rotfl:).

I do disagree with the oft quoted adage about never checking a site after you have booked a ticket. I often go back and 'see how I've done', to use a reference tool for when I'm booking my jollies for a following year.

Maybe one for the Arms rather than here, but what is wrong with Malta? A place that I am planning to visit one day, if I get the chance. Is it true that the money there is still the old pounds, shillings and pennies?

no longer - they are now in euroland.

I's love to tell you what is wrong with Malta, but i'd live in permanent fear of blue rinsed, tartan handbag wielding, ankle slipper wearing, pipe smoking, Tom Jones kareoke singing, tea spoon collecting vigilante lovers of M**** tracking me down and telling me how good M**** is, whilst they drink their half pints of mild and/or rum and peppermint.

I think you have the right idea though -- visit for one day then get away from their sharpish :D
