Legally an adult at 18 yet I was asked by by son's college to provide an absence note. A contradiction in terms methinks0 -

It's DS3's birthday today. He's at our local Uni, so when I asked what sort of cake he wanted, he asked if he could have 'a few' friends round 'maybe between 4 and 8 before we go into town'.
Somewhat against our better judgement, this happened. He said he'd come home 'between 2.30 and 3 to tidy up and get ready'. He turned up at 4. Fortunately none of his friends appeared until nearly 6. About 10 of them, some from Uni, some from his old school. There were cans and bottles of beer, and burgers, and cider, and cake, and wine, and Pringles, and vodka, and DS3 now has two bottles of cheap scotch and something bright blue. He says he'll come home tomorrow to clear up ... The one who spilled drink on the hall carpet was SO apologetic, and instantly on his knees with paper towels to mop it up. One of the Uni girls was ALL OVER DS3, protesting undying love because 'he's so clever'. One of his school friends was telling me tales about their underage drinking. They think I'm wonderful for letting them come here. :rotfl:
They left, very noisily, in taxis, just before 10. It's once more eerily quiet.
I do miss him. He was SO infuriating when he was at home, but I do miss him ...
Sorry, not sure where that came from! And it's no help at all to MofD!!!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I'm surprised they communicated with you at all. DD1's college refuses to have any contact with parents as 'the student is the adult we deal with' and actively encourage the students to strike out on their own so they can do as they please, with tales of getting flats from the council (and then washing their hands of the situation once it comes out that council flats aren't for 17 year olds). All very well - but anyone claiming child benefit for their college attending (or avoiding) offspring is responsible for the information they give the Inland Revenue - ie, if the 'adult' decides they aren't going to turn up, the college doesn't mention it and the parent has technically committed fraud by accepting the ChB or Child Tax Credit payments...
The silent treatment is better than the stomping off to live somewhere else on the advice of the college.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0
