Want a no fuss wedding ?

Hello.
After having a read through so many threads here (all great) I've got a headache _pale_

I got engaged last year and my boyfriend wants to get married next year or the latest, the year after.

But weddings seem so much hard work.

I just want to wear a pretty dress, have a meal with family (will be about 40 people) and a disco at night (the day guests and maybe 40 extra at night - max)

It all seems too much hard work and expense for one day. And I have just lost my job, so concentrating on finding another.

Has anyone got any stories of small, easy to arrange weddings please? (and as cheap as possible)

And thank you for any replies!

You need to bob across and look at Love My Dress wedding blog. There are some great hints and tips for doing things on a budget or DIY.

Thank you! I will look on there.

I have ordered a few brochures, from local hotels, and nearly fainted at some of the prices.

The way I see it, I could arrange an evening "do" for a party and pay X amount, but as soon as you mention "wedding" the price rockets!

I've found that a lot of the fuss depends on how much you care about the little things. Its really easy to obsess over making sure that the purple on your invites matches the purple on your cake. If you aren't that bothered and can be relaxed on those issues, everything becomes easier!

    1) Buy all your stationary ready made from a cheap-ish shop - ie card factory or vista print. DIY invites took us forever!

    2) Dont have a seating plan and then you dont need place cards

    3) Choose a pretty venue - cut down on decorating! I think its twirlypinky who is getting married in a greek taverna so isn't bothering with centre pieces as they'll have candles etc already set out.

    4) Check out the high street for dresses - Monsoon have some lovely ones

Basically, with weddings you can go as far as you want, if you want to keep it simple and let it be just about you and your OH getting married amongst your closest friends then thats it. Shouldn't be more complicated than a big birthday party!

There was a thread on here about a wedding that was organised in two months and was pretty hassle free - can anyone remember who posted it?

Oh and don't be afraid of looking at unconventional venues, we're getting married in a pub and the whole day including room hire, 3 course meal and evening buffet, welcome drink, half a bottle of wine per person and a toast drink will be less than £4000 for 85 daytime and 120 evening guests. We saw places even cheaper than this and we could have chosen different options to cut costs further.

thank you! I'll have to sit him down and get some numbers and take it from there.

We only have a small family. Including me, BF and my family, it's 22
His side might only be 15

Then friends, workmates and a few neighbours for the evening.

So not many at all really.

The little things I am not bothered with.

I might splash out and have a few balloons :rotfl:

its a great thread...her circumstances were possibly a little different to yours as she wanted to get married before the birth of her baby..but the sentiment is the same and she had some great tips and spread sheets for helping to keep every thing on track
