What did they say?
(Surely they realise that, as an internet-based account, they can't rely on inertia to the same degree?)

I've just spoken to them too. A soon as I have an alternative my money will be gone.
I hope ING's behaviour is highlighted in the next money saving email so no one misses this.0 -
At this rate someone at ING will look up from their spreadsheet and ask where the heck has all the money gone ?
Mine was moved last week!"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."
Bertrand Russell. British author, mathematician, & philosopher (1872 - 1970)0 -
Yep.
They will look at their spreadsheet and say "it's daft to behave differently from any of the other banks when sites like this dreadful MSE exist".
"That fragile flower, loyalty, has finally been killed by both sides (banks and consumer organisations)." Discuss.0 -

They said more or less what their letters/email say (not that I have any) that although they are keeping their saving account at the same rate 4.75% their customers like the consistingly high rate and security and have I considered their new accounts I mentioned that I had only heard of them through this web site which I thought was inconsiderate of them not to inform everyone of their customers of these new accounts.
I have some of their fixed accounts that end 1 feb 07 and only found out about those from this site as well. I now get the feeling they do not give a ***t about their customers and play on the assumption we are too lazy to move our money around.

They're going to have to offer something pretty special when that matures (we've got the same a/c, up to the beginning of Feb 07) or lose a helluva lot of money.
Thanks Gary0 -
Does anyone know where ING comes in the table of internet only accounts?
I'd be amazed if they even scrape into the top 10.
Although the BM will be happy, as they can keep their account at 5% (guaranteed to be .25% higher than ING).
Still, I wouldn't get too excited about Icesave. Once they have everyone's cash they'll no doubt start behaving exactly like ING, who now only care about their mortgage borrowers.
Let's be honest - we've been had!0 -
Birmingham Midshires is currently 6th according to Money£acts with 5.0% (effectively 7th) because they exclude ICICI.
So I suspect you are right about ING's likely position, mm.
IceSave has some useful guarantees until October 2009. But that's too long a time-scale for most people on this site.
