Not sure whether I'll need to buy the connectivity kit or whether my usb kit I have with multi way connectors has an ok connection.

You can use a generic usb cable to connect the navman to the pc to transafer software and recharge. If you want to use the "official" software for upgrading speed camera locations, then you need to buy the kit

is it possible to use a copy of non uk maps or is the only way by using the original maps supplied on the navman sd card?

The navman does not come with an SD card. Any additional maps you add will have to be put into an SD card, such as the European map.

the crux of my question is, can you use copies of the contents of these sd cards you would buy to access european maps?
  • Some things to be aware of:

Navman was recently sold to Mitac (the people behind the Miomap and iGO GPS devices).

Until now, support for Navman devices was dreadful. I've owned an iCN520 for nearly 3 years and haven't seen a single update for any of my maps. To use the latest maps I would have to dump my old iCN and buy a whole new PNA, since upgrading Navman's SmartST software is impossible without breaking the law.

Mercifully, several hackers have written software to legally unlock many Navman GPS devices, so that software other than SmartST can be installed on them. I don't know if anyone has been able to do this yet for the Navman F20.

On an unlocked Navman you can install virtually all the other GPS applications. You can even watch movies, listen to music, and play many PDA games.

Personally, I love my iCN520 now that it is unlocked, but it would be a cold day in hell before I would ever buy another product with a Navman logo.

Good alternatives to the Navman are: Miomap 3.2, iGO 2006 Plus, Tomtom 6 and Destinator 6.
  • Staples have the Navman F20 back in stock at £99.99 - free delivery. http://www.staples.co.uk/eng/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?CatIds=%2C&webid=385810&affixedcode=WW

I went to buy one in store, but they're £129.99 there - but they deducted the £30 difference just for the asking!

So with this in mind, is anyone else worried about it or has anyone had anyother problems?

And could anyone summarise all of these pages... i've read through them all and am looking to buy a satnav system for the OH but i'm so confused now as to which is the best and cheapest offer.

    Any help for a newbie?

I would recommend the navman F20. I find it really really good... much better than higher priced ones I have used before.
