Did you put in an insurance claim for all the other visits?

My friendds dog is the same and cannot have any human food and some treats make her like that too. Glad things are getting sorted, it's a constant worry sometimes, isn't it.

When my puppy was sick (she was wolfing too much food it turned out) the vets told me I 'had her take her in right now as she might die otherwise'. I didn't take her and she was fine on chicken and rice. Now she has an anti-gulp bowl and she is fine. She is manic over food, you'd think we starve them the way they go on, LOL.

I am going to ask the vet for a breakdown of everything and try and make a claim..

I am thinking of changing vets though as they make me feel really bad if I dont take him - i.e. I went in for something else and they asked how he was and when I said we were muddling through they were horrified and told me to make an appointment right now. I didnt.

I would appreciate any thoughts on this?

I have a 9 month old springer, who has a bit of a dodgy tummy, which we are working on (finding out what is causing the problems etc.)

We have just been away for 5 days and he stayed with a lovely family and has been spoilt to bits :D I dont think he was very pleased about coming home to be honest and this morning I came downstairs to be greeted by no less than 9 poos dotted around the floor  he has not pooed on the floor since we first got him aged 4 months and he actually only did it the once, so I am pretty shocked.

I dont think he 'needed' to go as it was not runny and even in the midst of all the tummy problems he has never had an accident inside and to go 9 times seems a bit excessive even if he were desperate!

I am feeling that he may be a bit !!!!ed off with us for leaving him (or bringing him home!) - does anyone have any suggestions? it doesnt help that the dog walker is walking him today as well as I am working..
It sounds as though you'd be best to go back to basics with your dog in house training. Nine poos could be going just twice or so,as they can come out a bit pelleted.

The pooing could be physical or quite likely to be emotional. (The recent visit away interrupted his confidence, training and adaption) A young dog hasn't yet learned the hold back automatically and it must be firmly but kindly nipped in the bud, so he doesn't learn to do that. Also dogs are experts at reading body language and a lot of attention can be misinterpreted as 'good' attention. It's all the same to the dog.

Put him in an area that's able to be caged in and put newspaper down on half the floor area and bedding down on the other half. Animals and dogs included don't soil their own 'nests' so as soon as he wants to go, he'll ask in his own way. Look pleased but don't praise. Lift the dog out silently outdoors and when they perform doo-doos, THEN praise to the skies. Only praise and acknowledge things you want. He'll soon get the message and as he gets older he will never be able to even think of doing it indoors.
