    A good a place as any to say Martin, a heartfelt thank you for providing such an amazing place for people to get together and share the touching stories about their situations, get support and advice, and info on offers, deals and loopholes. The companies out there are certainly taking notice, and maybe I'm now a lot more aware, but definitely more savvy and always search out the cheapest for anything I buy within reason of course. The investment into the servers and the site is I am sure, VERY appreciated by the rest of the members on here. It is unfortunate some see it as a way to make money for themselves, but hopefully people do not allow them to get away with this, and hopefully their conscience get's the better of them. Anyway, you should be extremely proud of what you have achieved, and the amount of people's lives you have touched positively - I've never heard a bad word about you! All those useless waste of space "celebrities" and so-called entertainers can never claim to be as passionate as you are about in what they do, and the reasons for doing what they do. Although you make a living from what you do, I am sure there is nobody on this site who resents that, and again without you there are a lot of people who would otherwise be out on the streets or in severe financial difficulty. May the site and yourself grow and prosper in 2007, and I'm sure you will reach 1m people on the mailing list next year :) I'm trying hard to covert people in my new job into seeing the error of their ways, aka the marketing hype and !!!!!!!! from the companies they are with and buy from... getting there :)

    Once again thank you!

  • You mentioned restricting the searches for 1 month instead of allowing searves over all posts.

    If it hasn't been done already, I would ensure the date time stamp is indexed.

  • Would things improve if we had subscriptions or donations? I was thinking of something along the lines of Spybot - you can get it for free but if you feel like donating you are very welcome. The site has saved us all lots of money and it might be worth thinking about if it means the site will run more smoothly.

    Thanks for the lovely notes. To be honest this isn't a money issue more a 'getting things improved without substantial downtime issue. There's a new front end and back end server being build at the moment - and the database server for the site is going to be hugely powerful - so all should be better (until and if we grow by another 50% and then more will be needed as always).

    We've made some short term changes

    1. The search has been changed slightly
    2. The backups have been made less frequent and at less busy times (from memory the only very busy time is 6.15 so you'll probably notice a slowdown then).

    Yet we're waiting for the new servers; these things are always slows as they need thorough testing first so that they don't make things worse. Yet I hope we'll get their soon :)

    Hi Martin - this may be utterly wrong but following on from you wanting to make the default search option a month I've noticed the following in your pages

    When you load the "Advanced Search" the page source includes:

    <input type="hidden" name="searchdate" value="31" />
    Which is very close to the hidden input I put on the nellysplace server to make it default to a month (except I had to use 30). - (And your default search is still "At Any Time")

    When you then execute a search putting the option manually to a month the search term generated includes

    searchdate=30

    Just wondered if the 30/31 value could be of significance to setting your search to a month by default. :confused: Or I could be talking rubbish as your sites highly customised :p
