Disabling Avast's scans doesn't help unfortunately, but it was an idea worth trying.

Maybe my hardware isn't powerful enough, but I really thought an i3 processor with 3GB RAM would be enough. Can anyone advise what level of hardware spec would run iPlayer smoothly? If it runs okay on your PC, can you post the spec onto this forum?

If it works streamed, it's probably an iplayer problem rather than anything to do with hardware

Yes, that's what I thought, especially as YouTube HD works fine. The whole point of spending the money on a machine with an i3 processor was so that I didn't have problems running modern programs such as iPlayer!

I ran CCleaner on my machine just now using it to do a clean, tidy the registry and remove a couple of things from the startup that I don't think I need. I then lauched iPlayer Desktop and an Adobe Air update came up. I ran this and carried onto iPlayer. This time the HD seems to play pretty well, so perhaps it is sorted now. I'll continue using it and see how I get on.

iPlayer HD is better than it was on my Acer 5741-A i3 3GB laptop, although still not perfect (my HP with a slower processor but 4GB RAM is better). Would it be worth upgrading the RAM from 3GB and would this make a difference?

    Tried defragging?
Is your machine clear of viruses etc also?

I haven't defragged, but my computer is only six months old and didn't play iPlayer smoothly when it was new.

I regularly run virus scans and I'm clean.

I read in a review that these Acer laptops don't play iPlayer smoothly, but I don't know why that should be.

see if the processor is working ok by pressing "control ,alt, delete", for the windows Task Manager, that will show you how its performing.

When playing an iPlayer HD programme, the CPU bounces from about 60% to 75% and memory is at 1.49GB.

I have just bought a brand new Acer 5742Z laptop (P6100 processor, 3GB RAM) and the iPlayer HD is slightly jerky on that too. Maybe it is just Acer laptops?! The only thing I can think to try is upgrading the RAM, would that make any difference?
