and she never paid it? I didn't even know she had done it.

I only lived with her for 2mths inbetween houses, and I just got a phone bill from BT for £200...

Help? What can I do? She didn't ask if she could do it, I never said she could use my name for it. She's been doing this for YEARS, since I was about 13 *sigh*

I thought you were moaning about a Balance Transfer she had made. That's the usual meaning of BT here in the Credit Card Board.

yeah, that's what i'd do. maybe she had a good reason to do it (maybe her credit is bad - BT do usually credit check for new lines) and she didn't want a prepayment plan, but she still did something naughty.

You only really have 2 options - either report her to BT for fraud - they may well expect you to report it to the police as well before they will listen to you. Or decide not to report her and pay the bill - and then try to get the money off her for it.

If she has done this before and is likely to again you might want to look into CIFAS protective registration - which costs £14 a month and makes it harder for someone to get credit in your name. Although to be fair I'm not sure whether it would stop something like BT it should certainly prevent her getting cards/ catalogues etc in your name.

I'd also check your credit files to see if there is anything else she has taken out that you don't know about.

I would not do this ....£14 a month to stop your mother taking something out in your name !!!! Have a sit down with her and explain how the bill has to be paid, if you can pay it just now and your mum pays you up, thats fine...If not explain to BT that you require to pay it up and tell mummy thats her christmas and birthday for a few years !!!!!

But...does that effect my credit file badly? Like if she doesnt pay it ASAP? I'm not 100% sure how this all works but I'm so angry with her. I don't want to dump my mum in trouble with the police you know? I dont think I could do that :(

Can she call them and change the name on it? Maybe say she made a mistake when filling out the form or something ? :((

Think they might wonder why and think it sounds fraudulent, big mistake to make by accident using your daughters name and address and not your own! Only way I can see this sorted without getting her in trouble is to pay the bill and close the account, as it's in YOUR name and unless you deny and prove it, they will hold you liable and of course it might then show on credit reports (Not sure that BT do report though?)

Your mother does not sound like a very good mother to me, maybe you should report her to the police and BT for fraud then she may stop screwing up your life well your financial life anyway.

Report her for fraud and let her fry, by all means if she had paid it then it would have boosted you credit file, but right now she has dropped you in it big time.

Yes reporting her may cause a rift, but she had no problems with the thought of trashing you credit file which can have a huge effect on your life.
