I'm sorry, I can't hear you under the giant piles of clothes all round my house
My boys have an infinite amount of clothes, I can't even bring myself to give away stuff I don't like - so won't make them wear, but just in case... My SIL always gives me huge bags from her friends and these tend to be end-of-life garments which I feel too guilty to chuck.
Then there are the clothes I kept from ds1, which are the wrong season/ or just wrong size for ds2, and I can't seem to get round to sorting the grown out of clothes - like it's a mine of Ebay wealth or something :rotfl:. Then every week it seems I'll see something I like - on sale bargains of course, and hey presto, even more clothes, this time with tags on!

    So, can't advise, sorry

Thank you, I thought it was just me, lol. Mine always seem to have far too many clothes and I never get round to sorting out the outgrown clothes. They don't need so much now as dd1 is at school and dd2 usually wants to wear her favourite Peppa and Hello Kitty clothes and a few other things she likes, but a lot of it she never really wears. But I can't bring myself to get rid of anything that still fits.
  • Mine have loads ekkk... Until I thought about today I thought they had average amount. I tend to buy clothes as outfits, so top and skirts etc that go together.
Im a sucker for nice clothes, but they tend to resell well on ebay.

I have 2 girls (9&11) and have always bought new clothes when things are outgrown or in advance if everyday items are on sale. However specific fashion items or those needed for special events (eg skinny jeans requested for annual school disco or HSM t-shirt for a HSM event etc) are bought as and when they are 'needed'.

I also tend to buy clothes in batches, but not in outfits. For example, I bought 4 pairs of everyday trousers in the last Boden sale and if DD1 has a growth spurt and is low on tops, I'm likely to buy her 3 or 4 new t-shirts in one go too, if I can. I'm not that keen on clothes shopping.

I don't restrict outfits, but once drawers or wardrobes are full or bulging, we have a clear out. I am trying to cut down the number of items we have, particularly things that are not worn often. I have also come to realise that I'd rather spend more money on items that are worn several times a week than on a party dress that might be worn 2 or 3 times. Gone are the days of splashing out on a nice Xmas outfit for my two!

Most items will also last 2 repeat seasons in our house; jeans bought this winter will probably fit this coming winter, so I'm not replacing whole wardrobes once or twice a year. Far from it in fact. Typing this, I have also realised that we have very few seasonal items of clothing so most things stay in their wardrobe until they are outgrown. This is in contrast to when they were toddlers, when they had very specific Summer or Winter clothes; how funny.

I would say that we do have a lot of clothing in our house; I just can't seem to recycle it quick enough because so many items last years! I estimate that both my children have probably 5 pairs of trousers/jeans/jeggings, numerous tops, 2-6 fleeces/jumpers, 2 tracksuits for sport and school trips, several items of sportswear/team kits and possibly a couple of special occasion items. Plus what amounts to be a lot of school uniform. The range depends on growth spurts and bargains.
