I wondered if other peeps keep a set number of outfits for their kids?

I buy as I need, apart from school uniform, which is renewed in the summer.0

It's gradually got less and less for each child.
I went way over the top for my first son and when I was packing the stuff away after he'd grown out of it, I realised that I'd rotated the top couple of outfits in the drawer and forgotten about a load of 'bargains' stuffed further down.
By the time I had my second child, my brother and sister had their own children as well so we all had bags of clothes in age ranges and sex, that became passed round the family. It's a never ending supply. Some outfits are on their fourth child!
My third has loads of clothes but hardly any of them have been bought specifically for him. This means that when I see something I really like, I will buy it as it's much rarer that I do.
The only things that I do always buy are shoes but I'm amazed at how few I buy compared to friends.
They all have one pair of school shoes each, one pair of sports trainers each and one other seasonal pair (converse type for the boys in the Winter, boots for the daughter, and all have sandals in the Summer). Some cheap flip flops on holiday and I'm done.0 -
I routinely buy for the next size up if something turns up that's worth it. I came across a winter coat a couple of months ago for 7-8s that was discounted from £ 40 to £ 12. It's now hanging in the wardrobe until the boy is big enough to wear it.Keep calm and carry on0

my boys have a lot of hand me downs and i keep trying to thin them out but they seem have 100s of clothes
one is 4 and the other almost 2 but they have a set of drawers each with trousers, jumpers, t shirts and jim jams in Ive only just started to get rid of some of the baby clothes I find it hard to part with lol, we are hoping to move soon so I think I will have to get rid of more. I tend to buy clothes when I do from primark or the odd nice shirt for a wedding but to be honest I dont buy much at all, my eldest never seems to grow 0 -
Mine have a mixture of stuff given to us by family, (new and old), and things I see in the sales up to 4 seasons ahead (2 yrs or more for the little one).Only the stuff that fits goes in their wardrobes though and the bigger stuff gets sifted through about every 4 months to see what might suit for the coming months. I don't often buy full price but may do for socks and undies as they don't get donated so much. If I need something like trousers though I'll probably put a want out on freecycle before paying full price. After all this I usually end up with loads for the little one and not much for the older one as he's very fussy! If the wardrobe feels overloaded then the clothes get outgrown quicker or I chuck out the not so nice stuff - I have a folding laundry basket constantly on the go for this and try and pass it on regularly as otherwise the house starts to feel stuffed.
Shoes wise we do winter - wellies, shoes or boots, slippers.
summer - crocs, shoes, sandals or doodles.
I buy wellies and crocs in advance (because LO likes thomas and it sells out) but shoes etc are fitted from clarks etc.
I'm lucky though cause mine don't grow more than 3 sizes a year generally so it's unusual for lo to need more than 3 pairs of fitted shoes a year.MSE PARENT CLUB MEMBER.ds1 nov 1997ds2 nov 2007:jFirst DDFirst DD born in june:beer:.0 -
I didn't realise before but reading this thread makes me realise how much clothes my son has, He has at least 20 short sleeved t shirts and 20 long sleeved t shirts, at least 10 pairs of trousers, 5 jumpers, 2 coats, at least 10 pairs of pyjamas not to mention shirts, vests, a million pairs of socks, joggy bottoms etc. Reading this thread has opened my eyes to how rediculous that is!!0

From birth, both mine have grown out of stuff. As the old stuff is passed to a friend, new stuff is bought in to replace.
Both have lots of mix and match stuff, no more than 5 of any one type of outerwear. Can never have too many pants though!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

I don't fling out/give stuff away that hasn't been grown out of - can't see the point in getting rid of clothes which could be worn. Even if they are older items, they are good for messy playtimes.
I don't have a set amount of clothes per child - I'm not that regimented lol. If they need summery things, I go out and buy summery things. If I see sale items, I will buy them. As and when is my motto.
The boys have 5 sets of uniform each, and around 8-10 pairs of trousers and more tops, shorts and t-shirts. DD has loads of clothes,I darent count, but at least 10 full outfits for nursery days, plus 'going out' and 'summer' dresses. I do washing throughout the week but only do the ironing on a Sunday afternoon usually.
I like buying clothes for the children - I always remember in the 80's never having anything really nice to wear, mainly hand-me-downs or school sweaters where I had to turn up the cuffs where they had frayed:o. I swore my children would never be bullied at school because of their clothes

I'm sorry, I can't hear you under the giant piles of clothes all round my house
My boys have an infinite amount of clothes, I can't even bring myself to give away stuff I don't like - so won't make them wear, but just in case... My SIL always gives me huge bags from her friends and these tend to be end-of-life garments which I feel too guilty to chuck.
Then there are the clothes I kept from ds1, which are the wrong season/ or just wrong size for ds2, and I can't seem to get round to sorting the grown out of clothes - like it's a mine of Ebay wealth or something :rotfl:. Then every week it seems I'll see something I like - on sale bargains of course, and hey presto, even more clothes, this time with tags on!
So, can't advise, sorry :eek::wall:0 -
I buy clothes when my boys have grown out of them or they wear out. DS1 (12) has a lot less clothes as he wants more expensive stuff, aside from uniform he has 3 or 4 pairs of jeans, 5 t shirts and a few hoodies. If he sees something he likes, I'll buy it in the next size up, unless it's on sale and I might buy his current size.
DS2 (5) has more stuff, but he gets messier so needs more changes and wears cheaper clothes. He has about 5 pairs of jeans and a few pairs of shorts, probably about 10 tshirts and 2/3 hoodies. All his clothes are supermarket type.
I sell the clothes in bundles on ebay after.0
