Yes (as far as the compulsory excesses for younger drivers are concerned)
Though you will still be subject to any inexperienced driver excesses.
Do dummy quotes online to get a good idea on premiums
thanks, will do some dummy quotes
my OH just added me to her insurance as a learner - for £26 which covers me until February!0 -

(And get her to check they will carry on covering you if/when you pass - many who cover learners won't cover "novice" full licence holders)0 -
I paid £820 for car insurance for my 18yr old son who had just past his test 8 months later same comparison websites are offering the same insurance for £280.
I am tempted to cancel excising insurance get a refund and then pay for additional 12 months insurance for £280.
Has anyone done this or am I missing something like cancellation charges etc?0 -
Yes there will be cancellation charges deducted from the refund (ask the exact total cost of cancellation) before making a decision)
Also no ncd will be awarded for the part year.0 -

Hi, in my experience, as I cancel my insurance they charge it to my refunded amount. My insurer was Chaucer Direct. They charge £25 if you widraw insurance before 14 days but after you will be charge higher.
Also, I decided to withdraw this because I read a guide on how to save a lot of money from my insurance. I recommend it to you too.0 -
18 yer old, passed test less than a year and only £280? I would expect a big mistake. £280 a month maybe?

My daughter passed her test 1 yr ago but hasn't been able to afford to drive since. My wife wants to add our daughter to her policy to help her out and drive to her studies, her part time work mainly and a little bit of local travel. Her current premiumfor a toyota yaris 1.3 t spirit '06 is only about £200pa with full NCB and nil excess.
Does anyone know which companies offer the best deal to add a teenager as a named driver? We are not in a position to buy our daughter her own car and for her to be insured in her own right.0 -
There is no best company. Your vehicle, Postcode and many other factors will all vary from everyone else.
Your insurer maybe really cheap for an older person and a red car, But add a younger driver and it may cost double compare to a blue one.
The is probably a compulsory excess for the younger/inexperienced driver. And if you have protected no claims that may not apply when they are using it.
If she drives to her studies and part time work and social. Will she really be the main driver? Insurers are hot on this now. If they think she is the main driver any claim maybe refused or much worse...Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
