I know I got a very good rate (much better than 'tourist rate') with my Nationwide debit card recently in Germany.0 -
Nationwide doesn't charge anything for ATM transactions abroad. It's worth having an account with them even if it's just used for holidays. I think it's a cheek for banks to charge people for taking out their own money." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Life may be too short to read the small print but as you have found it can be expensive.

Hi,
Can anyone help. My son's just come back from a long trip in S E Asia. Now he's going through his bank statements he's discovered that for every cash withdrawal he made he's been charged £1.50 but nowhere was it obvious that there would be a charge. Could he claim these charges back?
Be grateful to hear fom anyone who has had the same experience or knows anything.
Cheers.0 -

EDIT: It sounds like he has a Halifax account? If he goes again he needs to read this article first...

No he can't claim them back.
Many banks (but not all) make this charge. It will be in the T&C0 -
if you have a hsbc plus account you can make withdrawals for free.
(however there is a £12.95 account fee so might not be worth getting just for international atm withdrawals.)0
