  • Hi
Im not placed to offer you any advice on money as I am in a mess myself, hence im on this site. However, I have done the access to health science course whilst juggling 5 children and a sick parent, I can remember the stress well. Like you I had to try and fit in a job too as I had no spare cash and hugh childcare fees.

I passed my course and started a midwifery degree, something Id always wanted to do, however 8 months in my mum took a turn for the worse and I cared for her for the next 6 months full time. I was also fighting the education authority for my son who is autistic to get the correct schooling - this cost me thousands of pounds I didnt have. In the end I couldnt go back to uni as I had no other family to look after the children on night shifts and I was broke.

HOWEVER my access course helped me get the job I am doing now and I really love it. Never thought I would, I thought midwifery was the only job for me, but I do feel blessed to have a job i enjoy so much. Now Im please I didnt run up any further debts getting my degree. My salary is only £3000 less per annum and hopefully soon Ill be promoted on the the same wage as I would have got for my midwifery.

What Im really trying to say is stick with the access course, take the advice people are giving about finances as that will be a weight of your mind and just have a look about at what jobs are available, you never know.

You can get through it. Good luck, I really wish you well.
