Catagory D writ off
Options
We bought a Porsche Carrerra 4 years ago and, on attempting to sell it, have found that it has a Catagory D insurance write off against it. The buyers have dropped out and now we need to find out if we have any recourse against the seller who never disclosed this information to us. We also have no idea where to find the information as to what sort of damage resulted in the car being written off. Anyone have any idea where we can get the above information? The garage is still trading and we haven't contacted them yet as we feel that we need some concrete info before we do.

It has had a small ding and you have driven it for four years without cause for complaint. Perhaps the selling garage didnt know, perhaps it was in the particulars when you bought the car and failed to notice it.
After 4 years I doubt you can do much about it.0 -
Check the garage out to see if in their advertising they mention anything about HPI reports on vehicles. If its a porsche carrerra they should really be doing checks on high value vehicles like that.
Do a HPI report yourself (Just google HPI Report) and it will bring back details of who logged it. Ring that insurance company and ask them more details about the claim.0 -

Not necesarily a 'small ding'. The repairs were clearly too costly and they just paid out on the value of the car. With a car of that value the repairs would of had to been quite high too.0 -
Didn't you have a HPi report done when you bought it?
Or did you buy froma dealer and they said it was HPi clear.
Pity you didn't buy from CarGiant as they charge a £91 Admin Fee which indemnifies you against buying a car that is later shown to have been recorded at the time of sale.
Did you see what I did there, lol.0 -

You mean what every garage is obliged to do, only CarGiant charge you extra for it?0 -

Do you seriously think garages do it for free, lol.
I don't think they are legally obliged to do it, though as they must guarantee good title they would be very stupid not to, perhaps this is what has happened in the OP's case, as a Cat D Porsche Carrera is worthless, in fact any decent Porsche Carrera that has been in any kind of accident and not repaired by Porsche, usually by sending them back to Germany, is in serious danger of having very poor residuals. I had a previous boss years ago that loaned his Carrera to the head salesman, he wrapped it round a post and had it fixed by a non Porsche garage as he was only covered 3rd party to drive it, lol.
This was fine till he went to trade his Carrera in for a new one, when they put it up on the ramp to value it, they spotted the good quality but non-Porsche repairs, result was the deal was off, the dealer wouldn't touch it, unless the price was reduced by £20k to have the car sent to Germany for proper repairwork.
They aren't a charity, they just include it into the profit margin.
Unless all the dealers near you are very, very nice men!
A dealer doen't have to HPi a car he sells on, but if he doesn't and something like this turns up then the dealer is liable.
Can't remember the exact wording but when a proper Car Dealer sells a car then the car is assumed to have good title from that point on, as the buyer is then an innocent purchaser, this is different from buying a car from a private buyer.
So, yes all dealers do charge you for a HPi check.
Though when the cars are sourced from auction, as most dealers cars are, then the auction house does the HPi check at point of sale, the cost of the HPi check would then be included in the purchase cost of the car, though basically the same person still pays for the HPi check, the eventual buyer.
Though it is good practice to do an independant HPi check prior to sale, which can then be included with the documents at point of sale, that is what I used to do when i have done Home Trading in the past.0 -

Yes and it is pathetic.
As has been said, proper garages offer the service as an inclusive in their price, only sham outfits charge extra and over the screen price for it.
I am getting sick of seeing Car Giant being blatantly spammed on here by you.0 -
Whatever.................do you actually own a car.
Come to think about it, I have never heard you make any positive comments about anything or anybody, except your mate gandolf, and the other forum wreckers.
Your post shows how little you know about the car trade, in pretty much the same way you know very little about most things.
Nothing worse than the uniformed shouting loudly so that they can try to convonce others they actually know what they are talking about.
Wifes Clio is still worth 90% of what we paid for it in Nov '09. That was the best £91 we have ever spent, beter than having it hidden away in an extra £1500 of profit margin, but you know so little that that think because it isn't written down it hasn't been factored into the deal, lets be honest now, have you ever seen a dealership invoice?
I take it you think Car Auctions are ripping people off because they charge clearly advertising fees when you buy a car there.
I take it you refuse to shop at LIdl bacuse they charge you for the plastic bags, lol, this is MSE.
Get with the program.
Or for once come up with a suitable cheaper alternative to CarGiant, nobody has so far. Yes buying privately of at auction may be sometimes be cheaper, but then again, sometimes not. Especially if you haven't got the knowledge to buy a decent car privately or at auction.
So come on Inactive, give us some options, not just carry on with your boring sniping.
This is MSE, where the forum is for sharing moneysaving tips, my tip is CarGiant, what are yours??????
Thats right none............................0 -

You need to read the forum more closely, I posted a link to Lidl's Screenwash a while back, today I have posted a link to a discounted new Skoda.
Not a link to some disposer of high mileage mainly knackered ex fleet junk.0 -

Of course they dont - they include it in the sticker price. they dont wait until they get you there to tell you that all the things that its reasonable to expect 'as standard' at any 'normal' car dealers actually cost extra at CG - servicing, body repairs, 'admin fee', warranty - all of which makes their headline price look better than a regular dealers but isnt really when you compare like with like.0
