Not sure if I'm on the right thread or not, but hoping someone might be able to give me some advice.

The gist of my story is after I rented my flat out to tenants I have moved back in. However, these tenants didn't have the windows or curtains open for 6 months!! There were mould marks all over the walls and a horrible mouldy/musty smell in my flat.

I've been back in my flat for 7 weeks and I've been spraying HG mould spray (which has got rid of the marks) on the walls and since Sunday I have been spraying Febreze on my sofa evey night before I got to bed. I have air fresheners which I use daily and the windows are opened for at least 8 hrs daily.

I can still smell the musty smell though! Any advice gratefully received.

Do you have carpets? Can you get them washed professionally and claim the cost back from the letting company?

Otherwise I would suggest sprinkling bicarb on the carpet and leaving for a couple of hours or overnight - then hoover up.

Bicarb is very good at getting rid of yucky smells - but you would probably have to repeat it several times.......

And of course - throw open the windows as often and for as long as possible....

Eeek didnt meant it that way... whoops.
Just thought that you were struggling to get get solids down :) Was trying to think of drinks that wouldn't be too sore. I loooove sugarpuffs -jealous! MMmmmm I'm outta cereal ;)

Must stop thinking food. (darn diet!)

    Thanks nixie

Yesterday I was struggling to eat or drink anything but my throat's a lot better this afternoon - the doctor did say the meds would kick in quickly - I think it's the mouthwash - I just don't fancy anything, can't put the effort into making anything but I'm hungry IYSWIM.

Dragged myself around Mr As and then picked the girls up. I've put the shopping away and need to sort the washing out now.

Does anyone know why I have to take my antibiotics on an empty stomach or an hour before food?

I think they are absorbed into your system quicker without food.

How can a microwave that is only used to heat a cup of milk for 45 seconds every day possibly get so mucky????? Are the filth fairies getting in and having a party in it every night?

have also just done half and hour gardening:T:T:T:T:T
gosh I'm doing really well today - not like me at all:rotfl:

decluttering though terrifies me - I am completely stuck with it

How do you move things out of the house - if thats not a stupid question? I can sort out bags for charity shop/ebay/NNS/put away etc etc, but the bags just seem to accumulate and never make it out of the house - what is your system for setting your clutter free:wall:

Thanks everyone for you kind thoughts - the funeral was very moving and therefore quite emotional - I have never seen so many men with tears rolling down their faces unchecked.

Someone called her a legend :D and I will miss her.

Mint if you use the thanks button as well you can see where you have got to.
UnionGirl I would use the bicarb way too if you cant get them done professionally because they clean and sanitise everything. Like the others have said it should come out of the deposit - if you are doing the cleaning yourself try to do every nook and cranny and wash whatever you can - maybe you could hire a carpet and upholstery cleaning machine?

mamaninie well done for at least filling the bags - you are half way there - maybe you should try to get rid of the chaity one as soon as you have filled it so that you cant back down - put it straight in the car and drop it off - as per our lovely Valli "Dont put it down put it away" works here too - dont just put the bag down in a corner - deal with it and maybe then it will get easier - think of the space it will create - ebay a couple of things as often as you can and decide what the money will be for - something special for you - a treat or whatever and have fun selling and watching the money build up in your paypal account.

anyway got home sooner than I expected and have now caught up so going to try to do something before I go to my Lent Group.

better get present wrapped for posting

    later,

  • Uniongirl – I’m an Estate Agent though we have a sister company in the same office that does the letting side so I have some knowledge on this. With 7 weeks having lapsed I’m assuming that your letting company will of given them their deposit back. Was it fully managed? If it was they should of done a leaving inspection and if the flat wasn’t as it was when they first moved in or doesn’t coincide with the inventory that they before the tenants moved in then you can take it up with the Property Ombudsman or ARLA but only if they are members of that organisation. If they only did rent collection then it would have been up to you to check them out and do the leaving inspection. The deposit should have been held in a tenant deposit scheme by law as well so that if there was any dispute you take it to the deposit scheme. Hope this helps and I also agree with Cycling on the bicarb bit
