Have the tyres been unused? For example, have they been stored somewhere, or has the car been off the road for a while?

It's been standing over winter, but this has been the top.
It's date code is 3209, so it's not an old tyre. It's one of a pair, the other one is perfect.
Not been on my car though, so I can't tell you what happened from manufacture until last year, when I got it.

I was just wondering if the rubber had started to perish.
  • Looks like wheelspin damage to me.

First thing I thought too when I saw it. I've done a bit of drag racing and rallying in my time and that looked very familiar :D:D

Oh dear. It looks like the OP is someone else stupid enough to buy used tyres and scrimp on the one thing keeping you on the road. And by the looks of it, that tyre would appear to have had a hard life.
  • Surely wheelspin damage would be around the tyre not in One Spot?......

Maybe its been locked up under braking momentarily in the past?

I was going to say suspension fault until I noticed it was only on one place.

Wonder if it's been sat for a while on the car?

I've never had wheelspin damage just on one point, usually I can get a feathering around the tyre.

I was wondering about the braking, but it's not a flat spot, just damage to the rubber , like tears, or even "picked at".
  • A momentarily lock up...even a nano second on a abrasive enough surface could cause damage like that without flatting it.
