If Admin have any issues with me telling people how to do it (not that it is illegal to talk about it anyway), let me know and I'll keep it via PM.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -
All the advice above is probably spot on.
Killer: Surely you are decribing how to *cough* rip a DVD that is not protected by *cough* copyright law, which obviously we can condone and therefore *cough* advise on.

By the same token, I see no harm in knowing how something works regardless of whether I am legally allowed to reverse engineer it or not.
I'm sure it will all be OK......my glass is still half full no matter what.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -
Hi again,
I've tried to download "Nero Burnlite" from Filehippo but when installing the download I keep getting this message "Installation of System Requirement Validator has failed. Set up will now exit".
What am I doing wrong please?! I'm using Windows XP.
Or can anyone suggest an alternative software programme for burning to DVD discs?
Also any guidance please on how to burn to a disc once you have used DVDShrink to save to hard drive? This has resulted in two folders being created "Audio TS" which has nothing in it and "Video TS" which has 8-10 sub-folders....?!?!
Many thx in advance.0 -

Provided you want to copy your DVD for purely backup purposes then I highly recommend dvd43. Once installed it allows you to Copy DVDs to your hard disk. Oh and it's free as well

In the free software article on MSE, the team recommend Imgburn
Even if It's empty, You do need the Audio_ts folder for compatibility with some DVD players.
See here for everything you need to know about using Imgburn
If you make a copy of one of your DVDs (for personal use of course) using the re-author part of DVDshrink, then you don't have to sit and watch the un-skippable piracy, coming soon, produced by countless companies etc. crap at the start of the DVD. You watch the film straight away.

Hi Dave_C
Thanks so much for your post, this certainly looks (!) straightforward so I'll give it a whirl! Just realised I only have CD discs though (hadn't appreciated these won't work!) so will have to guy and buy some DVD discs tomorrow! I'll get there eventually I hope!0 -
I don't see any issues with copying media that you own. For example, I have a large CD collection and I have a portable MP3 player, I rip my CD's so that I can enjoy my music on the train, at the gym, while flying etc.. I don't see any issues with ripping a DVD that I have purchased so that I can enjoy my movies on the train, at the gym, while flying etc.. The issue is distribution of the media or sale of the media.

DVDfab is a fully functioning but is time limited unless you buy it at the end of the trial (or re-install it). Insert your disc, click DVD copy, select Main Movie, select 'target' - I use the right hand icon which saves it as an ISO file which retains the full quality. You might find Windows media player won't open these files but if you download 'VLC player' (free - search on google) which will play pretty much anything. This will eat space on your hard drive though - I bought a large external drive to do this and have now consigned my discs to the loft.
Bear in mind though, as others have said, it is technically illegal to copy or rip dvds, even if you own the original disc.
When you are talking of the amount of space used on your disc, do you mean the VLC player takes up a lot of room or copying videos to your hard drive? I was wondering about downloading the player to play short videos that won't play because I don't have the correct program to read them, I'm talking short home made ones of only a minute or two.
