Can you get DLA for anxiety?

Without going into details, it's been a terrible couple of years and I now get panic attacks. I'm self employed so I work from home but I can only do it in bursts of an hour, working outside is out of the question at the moment.
Is it worth trying to get DLA for a year to tide me over til I am back on my feet again properly?

    Do you have care/mobility needs?
DLA isn't a benefit to 'get you over' a bad patch.. It is for people that have extra needs as a resuklt of disability.

No I don't but I can't work at the moment. My 7 year old gets DLA for behavioural problems because he needs extra support in and out of school but he has improved so much he won't be getting it from June. He has a non permanent disability.

If you can't work would it be worth applying for ESA?

I'd agree that ESA would be the route to go down.

DLA isn't a benefit for people that can't work. it's for people with disabilities, regardless of if they work or not.

I have savings (trying to move and I need them for a deposit) and I think that means I can't get ESA but I'll check. It's a bit catch 22, when we move to a calmer area I'll be ok and able to pick myself up again but I can't spend my house deposit or we will be stuck here.

Depending on how much your savings are (and your NI contributions) you might be entitled to contribution based ESA.

Try putting your details into this http://www.turn2us.org.uk/benefits_search.aspx and see if it helps :)

Surely you would be better looking at ways to manage your anxiety, rather than maximising your benefit entitlement?
    Gone ... or have I?

Why have you not canceled his DLA if he has improved so much?
  • You can always apply anyway but I doubt you will get it tbh unless you have care or mobility needs.
I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

I am, I am getting some help through a refferal from the Dr but one of the reasons I am so stressed is because I am very worried about money.
