I don't know what kind of bed guard you are using but I recently got this as a compromise: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CHILD-PORTABLE-BED-GUARD-RAIL-100cm-Travel-Safety-Foam-/180639812648?pt=UK_Baby_NurseryBedding_RL&hash=item2a0ef8cc28
I only bought 1 to start with to see how it was and liked it so much I bought another one for my little one. I like the fact that I can sit on top of it to read a book to the children and it's not intrusive, but it is a little extra help to stop them falling out. My 3yr old hasn't fallen out of bed with it on. My 2 yr old has fallen out once with it on the bed (she is quite a wriggler) but she sleeps on a guest bed so I keep the underbed out a bit at night so she wasn't too trauatised by falling out.
Hope this helps in some way.Current Debt - [strike]£38000[/strike] [strike]£32000[/strike] [strike]£28500[/strike] [strike]£22000[/strike] [strike]£16000[/strike] [strike]£10000[/strike] [STRIKE]£1500[/STRIKE] £14000:eek:0 -
My kids both have midi sleepers and haven't fallen out - since they were 2 3/4 yrs old. I just made sure that when we put it up we had the steps at the bottom of the bed, so there was no chance of their head coming over the side of the bed! xxMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
You are not a rubbish mummy,
my 4 yr old nearly 5 has started doing this, thing is she ends up staying where she is.
I check her before i go to bed move her over tuck her in ect, i went into her the other morning to wake her for school and she was asleep on the floor rolled up in her duvet.
When i asked her if she had fell out of bed she said yes mummy, i said did you hurt yourself she said no, i said to her why did you not come and get mummy or get back into bed, her reply was i was comfortable and could not be bothered lol
Both girls had princess beds built for them last year they are fairly low but think she just prefers the floor :0)0 -
Personally I would keep the bedguard, I see no reason not to have it. DD is 8 next month and still has hers, it's never been an issue. DS has a toddler bed with a kind of built in bed guard, but it's so low to the ground that he's come out of it many times and just stayed where he's fallen. He also leaves things out on the floor when he goes to sleep (and all in his bed too) that it's impossible to be alert to everything.
And fwiw, I wouldn't have called paramedics for a cut ear either (although I wouldn't have been shocked by the amount of blood, I know from experience that ears bleed more than just about anywhere else if you cut them). If I was concerned then I would have bundled him in the car and taken him to A&E. However, I have a car and the hosp is pretty close, so it's not a problem for me.
JxAnd it looks like we made it once again

yes, but you have learned this from experience as I have. new mums can panic and its better to be safe than sorry!0 -

Which is why I made the point that I wouldn't have called the paramedics because I know ears bleed like anything. It probably is something that would panic someone who doesn't realise that. I was attempting not to be too judgemental;)

We've put our four year old in a low riser and he seems much more secure in it because of the high sides. We've put those foam interlocking mats with letters and numbers on all round as a sort of safety carpet. I would have called the paramedics - significant fall + head injury + small child - it's more than likely nothing but it needs checking out.0
