Are you sure it's not the entire amount? I've never heard of any university offering a discount for a deposit. Which university is this?

Chelsea has a first & Second Choice, being Huddersfield, then Leeds Met.

she has had the information direct from both Universities

Best of luck to her with it. She must be one of the 'few and far between'

    Thanks Devildog.
not sure about the few & far between, she is so damn stubborn(sometimes, like for Uni,in a good way).shes a little thing, looks about 14,applied for a shooting course through the Sea Cadets, using the new issue firearm used by the forces, not sure what its called,we all thought she would give it her best,as always, but it would be to much for her.

she put that look on her face that said watch this space, then went on the course & beat all the lads.sheer determination.

she has that mindset on her now for the university.

Then she's not reading it correctly. Huddersfield AFAIK doesn't have its own halls - it has approved halls, but none of its own. There is an early booker agreement - that's £3 per week discount if you're one of the first 50 or 100 depending on the accommodation to sign and pay.

How much money are you talking about here?

have checked with Chelsea, seems we got the discount wrong,it is £3.00 per week,£12.00 per Month, sorry.
the accommodation is used by the Uni,but not owned by it.that bit is my fault, i thought the Uni owned it.
    sorry people

Most unis only charge around £200 for a room deposit. Is there nobody you could borrow from, got anything you could sell etc?

    Hi,

I also have Hashi's and found out midway through my absolutely terrible first year.

The only benefit that I was able to recieve was disability in youth which was £90 odd a week.

Also I got some disabled student allowance for anything I needed, like if i didn't already have a computer and printer (including insurance), printing paper and ink. They also paid for my internet. You have to pay for these then send a copy of your payment and they refund you in about a week.

I also got an access to learning fund from uni which was over £1000.

If you need any help/advice or anyone to chat to about studying with hashi's feel free to pm me!

Really? People with hashis/autoimmune thyroiditis get disability benefits?
I find this quite hard to believe (not saying you are lying, just that it is unbelievable) considering that once treatment is stabilized it doesn't generally cause any issues. I have it and although it took two years of me being really poorly before my treatment was finally right now nobody would know.

I'm quite interested in what you say though as I'm planning to return to uni as a mature student and it had never occured to me to mention it to anyone. I thought disability things were for people who needed extra help because of their disability. Do you have any links to further information please?

I'm with you...I had no idea people with hypothyroidism (and I suffer from it, btw) were eligible for disability benefits? Why on earth should we be? I wasn't diagnosed until after my A-Levels, by which time I was in a really bad way. Received no disability benefits at all and still managed to scrape through with OK grades.

I had no issues with uni, either - special accommodation isn't a requirement, as far as I'm aware and I don't see why someone with hypothyroidism should be eligible for a free laptop/money, etc.

For the record I am now doing a masters degree. Aside from getting the odd blood test now and again, I get on with life as normal.

i have never heard of people getting disability benefits for it either. my DD is 19 months and has congenital hypothyroidism i.e. no thyroid gland developed in utero she cannot produce any thyroid hormone herself. im on forums all the time talking about it and have never heard of people getting disability benefits because of it.
