I was offered the choice of staying on my legacy package with 6 months free, so in hindsight would have probably opted for that.

Can I ask why you didn't take that offer?

I guess the truthful answer is that I made an on the spot decision without researching the consequences...

The new package is cheaper (albeit by a negligible amount) and they offered me a new router, which I am told is 'better'. I guess I just thought 'why not'. I did ask the retentions guy whether there were any other differences, aside from the 100gb download limit, between my old package and my new package. The answer was a resounding 'no'. If he had told me about the traffic shaping, of course I would have made a different decision.

No unfortunately they are not telling you unless you ask ouright. They are really trying to get everyone off the old legacy packages.

Surely asking whether there are 'any other differences' is grounds for a bit of a grumble though! I do feel a little 'mis-sold'.

I agree. You do have grounds and the right to cancel but it won't get you your legacy package back.
