Hi All
I don't post on here very often or read the forums too much, so sorry if this has been noted elsewhere.
As most of you will know, o2 are increasing their broadband price at the end of March. Mine is going up to £12.50. But...
The price hike means you have the right to cancel. Even better o2 are currently offering, for those who have had an o2 phone for 2 years, 6 months free broadband. I've cancelled and resigned with no fuss - I will not even be without broadband at all.
After the 6 months, for me it goes up to £13 and I am locked in for another 6 months (12 month min contract), but makes it well worth it given that we get 6 months free.
To top it off, I've only been with o2 for 5 months and have already had 3 months free.
Hope this helps someone!

Large thread about it here;

Also should point out to beware what package O2 try to give you the 6 months free discount on. O2 will first of all try to get you to change over to the new packages which have download limits and traffic shaping whereas the previous legacy tariffs did not.
It is possible to get 6 months free and still stay on the old legacy packages.0 -
As above, if you opted to cancel & renew then you have just shot yourself because you will now have traffic shaping in place.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0

Since you will have to terminate your old service before reapplying, how come you say that you'll 'not be without broadband at all'? You'll have about a 10 day break in service surely? No free lunch, and no free laptop

I thought you couldn't signup again for 6 months after leaving?0
-
O2 seem to be very keen to get shot of as many of the old style contracts as they can. Although the OP says cancel and start again I expect it is just a contract swap that's involved. At least one other person said the same thing the other day.0

The new o2 contracts are terrible, you'll be sorry0

Hello All
Why will I be sorry? Agreed, my old contract had no download limits, whereas this one is 100gb per month which is more than enough for me.
I have a 14 day cooling off period, so might just move back to the legacy package if it really is better... but if it is just the download limits, then I'm pretty happy. I don't use anywhere near 100gb per month.0 -
It's not the download limit, it's the traffic management.
And how can you sign up again straight after leaving?
You cannot move back to one of the legacy packages once you leave them, cooling off period or no cooling off period...that's why they're called 'legacy'.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Right, okay. I did not realise that I would not be able to switch back to my previous package, but I guess that should have been obvious given that, in moving to the new package, they were completely cancelling my old deal. Oh well, what is done is done. I was offered the choice of staying on my legacy package with 6 months free, so in hindsight would have probably opted for that. Btw, in terms of not being without broadband, that's what the o2 retentions guy told me. From what I understand, I'm now on the new package and have not had to be without the internet at all.
I just telephoned o2 to say that I am concerned about the traffic management aspect. Of course I was told that I should not notice a diffence to performance because of my internet useage habbits (few emails here and there, check the news, watch Iplayer not very often. We'll see. If I notice a difference over the next few weeks, I'll just cancel and look for a different provider. Any suggestions?!0
