'Decimate' used not in its correct and original meaning which would be 'reduce by 10', but implying total destruction.

Everyone 'turns round' when they speak. E.g. 'He turned round and said' and 'she turned round' and...

'You know what I mean'. 'No, I do not. Please explain to me what you mean'.

I agree about 'like'. He was like and I was like...

Anything derived from black ghetto-speak. I occasionally see the Jeremy Kyle show, and on there recently there were 2 young career criminals with the girl-friend of one of them. The phrase used by one of them was 'Bro's before ho's' i.e. mates before girl-friends. The young woman sat there completely unmoved by being called a 'ho'. I think we can all work out exactly what is implied by that word - it's a shortening of a word which would not even be allowed here.

110% when they actually mean 100% - you simply cannot give 110% effort or be 110% sure!!!

'You have 2 choices' when what is actually meant is 2 options or one choice.

At the end of the day....

:D Or three alternatives - no such thing, as it is either one thing or another.

Lots of Glasgow "ned speak" irritates me, typically:

"...and I was like..........then she was was like..........."

    "s/he's a pure daftie"

    "ya dancer!"

    "stop dingying me"

    "bolt ya rocket"
"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" (Douglas Adams)

I work for one of the major banks and I play a mental game each day to see how much often I hear the following (all of which irritate me greatly) -

    Low Hanging Fruit
    Closing the loop
    A holistic approach
    Helicopter view
    Lets do some virtual thinking

and the one which irritates me most -
A plan for a plan (you either have a plan or you don't)

I have a 'Happy Place' that I mentally visit whenever I hear this particularly annoying phrase - somebody please hit me with a brick.
  • You have two choice, Like it or Lump it
  • Touch base
    Chillax
It's got the Xfactor/ wow factor (on property programmes)

The other thing that drives me mental is lazy spelling. Not text spelling just plain lazy spelling. eg. ov instead of of. It's the same amount of letters and the letter V is directly BELOW the F.
Other ones include: cnt (can't) wudnt (wouldn't) tym (time) da (the) etc...
