    Sorry, you're both wrong. .

AFIK if the buyer knows the DW is defective he is obliged to declare this or the buyer can claim on the seller.

The seller is not obliged to declare anything unless asked; then he has to be truthful. Not just my opinion.

That was a pointless post, unless you can give some evidence to support your opinion?

I believe OP could be held liable. As described by jackieb

I really am not interested in debating legal / moral issues.

Fact is the OP and most others have stated they would be prepared to replace the DW with a second hand item. Good luck finding a second hand integral DW for sale.

I would suggest a cash offer toward a replacement might be the best option for the OP.

Why? Because it did not concur with your interpretation of the law?

unless you can give some evidence to support your opinion?
Already suggested by someone - google 'caveat emptor'.

This has already been covered, correctly, above.

It is a legal and/or moral issue. So your lack of interest may not be shared by the OP.

I would suggest a cash offer toward a replacement might be the best option for the OP.
I agree with your last point!

    Thanks for everyone's input.

The DW was included in the sale as in that it stated it in the fixtures and fittings list that I was leaving it.

I do not think buying a new dishwasher to replace it is an option. Lets be honest for a good one they cost more than £250.

Someone posted treat people how you would want to be treated. Quite true and with that in mind I am going to let our buyer know that the dishwasher has broken and offer him some cash to put towards a new one. This is what I would expect to be honest.

I don't think buying one off of ebay for £20 and installing it will help anyone.

I did read somewhere that an integrated kitchen was considered part of the building. As in you are not allowed to take any of it with you?

I reckon legally I could just walk away and leave him with the problem. As nowhere have I stated it works and he hasn't checked it and hasn't asked. Surely the appliances are sold as seen.

If the fridge breaks down after I moved out. Is he going to ring me and ask some money for that as well? :D

We have a dishwasher in this house we bought last aug..it has never been switched on and never will be while i have two hands and a sink..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

    Hi,

Thought I would give you an update.

I have spoken to my buyer and have offered him £100 because the dishwasher has broken.

He has demanded £150 or says get it repaired. The repair is probably going to cost me £150-£200 I reckon.

The machine is approx 10 years old.

What are everyone's thoughts on this?

I thought £100 was quite generous.

Where do I stand on this? To be honest I don't want to make a big deal out of it as I get on with him quite well.

    Thanks
