Auto renewal who has been caught out

That isnt actually true though is it. The companies are required to put it in clear print in the main part of the renewal letter as to what should be done next if you do/dont want to renew. It is not hidden in the small print at all.
I have a house insurance renewal letter from Aviva amd it doesn't tell me how to stop it auto-renewing. Just says "If you're happy thrn you don't need to do anything." and "...relax, maybe put the kettle on."
So how do I stop then renewing it? And how do I report them and to whom?0 -

Ring the renewal number and tell them you don't want to renew it.
Why do you want to report them?0 -

If it doesnt state what you need to do if you do not wish to renew then you should complain as it should be on there. You make the complaint to aviva.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Mad to think that AVIVA would make such an obvious error regards FSA compliance...0

Even more reason to scrap it.
Everyone would know exactly where they stood, and would have to renew for themselves.0 -
I have just become a victim of auto renewal. I used comparison sites and found insurance I was happy with and paid and sorted it a week before it was due. I never recieved a renewal quote, never thought anything of it and was not really concerned found a cheaper quote than paid last year anyway. Only realised when money taken out of account two days later. This is a new thing for me and seems very wrong to take money from an account without my permission - feels like I have been a victim of robbery.
Shouldn't it be pointed out on the original paper work sent out when you take policy out, then I would have made a note to cancel. Seems logical to me!! Anyway they say (Hastings) will refund if I send proof that I was insured when my policy ended with them. Have email this to them, so will see.
Note to Martin couldn't this be advertised more that companys do this now so people are aware.0 -

Don't worry, there will be enough posters on soon saying it was on your paperwork, and you missed it.
Give them a bit of time.0 -
No fancy computerised system but automatic renewal anyway
Our insurance agent did not send a renewal advice prior but was honest enough to admit it - reason - short staffed and he was confident we would not get a better deal anywhere else.
Auto renewal seems to be the norm now , but if you are unhappy I believe you can cancel for an admin fee.0
