Auto renewal who has been caught out

as the title says,
a friend has been recently caught by the slime ball house insurers hiding 'auto renewal' in the small print,
it would be interesting to see how many others have been caught

a friend has been recently caught by the slime ball house insurers hiding 'auto renewal' in the small print,

That isnt actually true though is it. The companies are required to put it in clear print in the main part of the renewal letter as to what should be done next if you do/dont want to renew. It is not hidden in the small print at all.

What you really mean is that your friend was too lazy to read the short renewal letter and made an incorrect assumption as to what would happen next.

it is actually true,he has every piece of correspondence about the house insurance from when he purchased the place 10 years ago,

the insurance company SAY they sent a reminder BUT he did not receive it,they also SAY the phoned him if so how come there was no message on the answer machine,

so please unless you are going to be constructive keep your assumptions to yourself

so my point still stands about them 'hiding' auto renewal in the small print

Its not an assumption. Its how it should work.

Are you saying that your friend has never had a renewal notice in 10 years?

Just done the same subject on another post regarding Swiftcover motor insurance.
No notification about auto renewal, and no notification of premium demanded.
Threatened me with debt collectors because they couldn't debit my credit card (changed card)

ts not hidden in the small print, its just in the small print, which you should read before committing yourself to the policy.
You have no idea how many people come on here and they ALL say 'i didnt get any reminder'

Why is it always someone elses fault.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

    Well,
    either we're all lieing
the postman is stealing everyone's renewal
    they're not being sent.

And, as suddenly it's an extortionate amount to renew, and half that to insure as a new customer, it makes sense to delay sending them.

In which case, i refer you back to post 2. The letter that comes with the renewal states what will happen next and what to do if you don't want it. Its not hidden in the small print. So, the failing here with your friend for not reading the renewal.

Look, I don't like auto renewal but I am not that fussed it exists. It has helped people avoid not being covered and losing out and it catches out people who don't read their post. However, you cannot blame the insurers for people who don't read their post. I know we live in a nanny state that overprotects the stupid but it's about time people started taking some responsibility for their actions (or inaction in this case).
