I am one of the people you all (y'all) hate..... I drive an a road about a mile, then the A1 for 2 miles and then an a road for 1/4 mile. This is my trip to work... I do 50 on the a road then 60-65 max on tha a1.
But your not driving everywhere at 45mph..... ?Several reasons, fuel economy, engine not getting properly warm, no need..... Sorry if I have offended but that's the way it is for me.
Speed does not equal fuel economy.
Your trying to stop your engine getting warmed up? Ok, early grave for your car then..... Expect the exhaust to rot.
You should always aim to get the engine up to full working temperature!
Do you drive about with only your sidelights on too? even in fog/snow?
In a pointless attempt to save fuel..... Road safety versus maybe a 1% fuel saving (actually less)?
I actually think that anyone who drives about without headlights on at night, or in fog/snow should have their licence revoked and their car crushed!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I think it's laziness, they just go into auto pilot mode. They're simply not paying attention.
These folks also insist that indicators should be used all the time, even at 3am on an empty road with not a human being within 15 miles and that doing so is a good "habit".
Also they assume the middle lane on a motorway is for normal driving and not for overtaking only.0 -

Speed does not equal fuel economy. So 100 mph in my car is as fuel efficient as 55? Pillock

You should always aim to get the engine up to full working temperature! It does get up to 90c I just don't push it as I've only been running the engine for a couple of minutes, yet again pillock....
Do you drive about with only your sidelights on too? even in fog/snow? No I don't and that is a massive personal assumption, pillock again.....

My pet hate - the 42mph everywhere brigade. We have loads of them round here. The only time they will do any other speed is on the motorway, always in the centre lane regardless of what else is around, at around 72mph.
They drive along looking no more than 10 ft in front of their bonnet and nowhere else, blissfully unaware of anything behind them, or whats happening two cars in front of them. This of course results in them slamming their brakes on every time they see the car in front's brake lights.
And to top it all, they usually have a sticker in their back window saying "30mph in [xxxxxxx]shire villages" whilst they pootle through them at 42mph.
Of course, if you overtake them, they flash their lights and start finger wagging.
If someone drove at 40mph on a de-restricted section of road on their driving test without good reason, they would probably fail for not making sufficient progress.0 -

You would probably fail as well, there is no such thing as a " de-restricted " section of road.0 -
Is it possible he meant national speed limit restrictions?
Your own advice before commenting on such posts. You need to take time and think is there another way of reading in to this, before blasting off.0 -
Slightly off topic, but I'm starting to get a bit annoyed by people who don't signal to turn left at a roundabout - i end up having to stop half the time when I could quite happily proceed if they'd just go to the effort of flicking that small switch that tells me where they want to go.0

Know what you mean! Our estate is off a slip rd off the a1 and coming off the estate you have the slip rd as the junction to your right. It's so annoying as you never know what direction people are going!'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

I know what you mean, a roundabout near me, in the left lane you can use it to go right (third exit), and cars don't indicate when going left for first exit.0 -

Yawn, do you have nothing better to do?
There can be no misunderstanding of " de-restricted ".
It simply does not apply to any road in the UK.0
