Using a Private GP Service

But you are purposefully twisting the OP to say that their NHS GP's report was insufficient because they had the persons medical history. That simply is not what was said and if it were the case then I would concur but since it's been stated that the GP's was very limited and inacurate then I don't feel it is wrong to ask a private GP for an assessment and report on their needs that the GP has actually put a little time and effort into.
Finding a decent NHS GP is of course more ideal a solution but that can certainly be more easily said than done for many."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -

Actually I was responding to tanith's comment about private GPs taking your word for everything. My GP seems happy to take my word for everything without checking so what's the difference?I'm curious as to how a private GP can write a report when they don't have your medical history? One assumes they have to take your word for everything that ails/affects you.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Sorry daska I didn't use a quote because the post I was replying to was the last one when I replied but you posted in between. It was the post before yours that mine was in reply to.

The government and their chums in big business say they support free choice and a free market, but that's a lie.
Their idea of a free market is one in which they can do as they please, hiring and firing at will to get the results that they want, but you can't. You have to take what you're given.

That is a rather sweeping statement to make. It is not easy today to find a GP practice that will give a good level of service, provide an environment that enables an honest & open relationship at the same time as not feeling rushed. That used to be the case only a few years ago. I myself have seen a dramatic change in my GP practice over the past 14 years. I always found that I felt that the GP was taking an interest in me, knew what my problems were and gave me confidence in dealing with my condition.
Now the first few minutes are taken up with telling the GP why I am there (told to come back for results), then he has to find the relevant paperwork on his VDU & read it all.
Then he asks how am I feeling? - For goodness sake I saw him not more than 7 days ago and told him the same answer - Oh I see, yes that's right. By which time I get the results and hey presto, 'BING' 8 minutes are up - if there is nothing else, come back in 3 months - goodbye!.
Where do you find a GP that suits me? Try another practice - there isn't one in the catchment area.
So no, now it's knowing that they aren't interested in me, so why bother? I look at it as that is how it is today. One stop shop now, repeat prescriptions, blood tests, CT scans, xrays, results.
And they wonder why the health of the nation is failing.
So the only way to get anywhere now is to pay for it, which is what I do - private GP's and private consultants and of course private hospitals if needed - (well I should say that Benenden pay for it thank goodness)!!
I honestly cant remember the last time i spent 30 minutes seeing my GP i get as long as i need for the problems i have that day,as for the service in general its no better but no worsed than it was 15 years ago,the question i would ask is this, like bupa would a private gp see you in an emergency?you can pay all the money in the world to bupa but if you were for example in an RTA it would be an nhs ambulance that would take you to nhs a&e dept.0 -

If they turn over doctors that frequently, then it's a crap practice. Change to another!
Or is, "never the same doctor twice in 8 years" a gross eggageration? Or, perhaps you've only been twice in 8 years?0 -

Perhaps twice in a row is what was meant not twice ever. My surgery isexactly the same yet it's the only one I've got any chance of getting to myself if I need to as it's very very close to my house. Not all of us have a choice unfortunately."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -

So it was a mistake, not an eggageration!
So where is the private practice you are considering? And where was the one you went to with a friend? Sounds more like 'your convenience' rather than distance is the criteria.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not disputing your thoughts on private Doctors, or defending the NHS, I've dumped two practices myself due to incompetance.
No not emotive action. One left me at risk of paralysis by treating my pain as phsychosomatic, and the other was giving me nasal decongestants for a fractured skull, that was causing cerebro-spinal fluid to run down my nose.

When ave I ever said I'm considering using a private GP? I have no need for one no GP will know anything about my condition or be able to do anything for me.
But if others have the need to then I can understand that."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0
