Using a Private GP Service

I'm curious as to how a private GP can write a report when they don't have your medical history? One assumes they have to take your word for everything that ails/affects you.
I am curious how ATOS can draw conclusions without full history but they do. One assumes they choose the bits that fit their agenda.0 -

You fill in a form before hand. with all your details, if the private gp has any concerns they contact your own nhs gp.
NHS gps really only go back as far as what is on their pc Monitor.
Also many people never get the chance to discuss their medical problems in full when visiting their nhs gp.esp if problems are complex.
And many people visiting their Nhs GP practice's never see the same doctor twice on the run.Child of a Fighting Race.0 -

So I assume the same applies to the private GP , they choose the bits that fit your agenda?
An NHS GP would have access to your medical history from birth should they need it which a private GP wouldn't. They would, as you say have to go to your own GP if they had concerns or needed more information, and if necessary you can book a double app with your GP if you need more time and request to see the same one at each visit .#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Alot of private GP's don't offer continuining care for ongoing problems. So may be useful for the BB and other one off's in the future but nothing ongoing.0

Oh I so love this thread!!!! This argument is right up my street.
What is the difference in having a report completed by ATOS for ESA, DLA, IIDB etc and a report prepared by a contracted in private GP.
None!
Both have no history.
So the time has come to fight the DWP using the same tactics as they use. I have always said that money buys the best evidence. I seem to remember reading on one thread that a long term member of this site after being told by his own NHS psychiatrist that there was no need for a report, he opted for a private one in order to secure the benefit that he/she was entitled to. I don't blame him/her.
And as for saying that it is better for your own GP to complete the report because of history, is actually living in Harry Potters world!!!
I have never had more than 10 mins with my GP. I have given up trying to explain how my life is affected by my condition. I just get my meds and walk away. NHS GP's are there to serve the masses, hence why you get a substandard service.
If you don't believe me, just see how you are treated as a private patient compared to an NHS one. The poster who described the experience is spot on with the money. You get what you pay for.
I have always gone private to see a Consultant. I have never had one through the NHS. However once you have jumped the queue, and have a working relationship, you then go on his/her NHS list!!
Why continue to pay for it when you don't have to.
I would never ask my consultant to provide a report - as an NHS patient - I would revert back to being a private one - it works wonders!!
So please don't give people grief for playing by the same rules as ATOS do - remember fight fire with fire!!0 -

ATOS stated that there was 'no evidence' of incontinence on my last medical - actually there is evidence going back 30 years. But it wasn't on my current GP's computer system and ATOS can't be bothered to check paper notes. All I did was mention it to my GP and hey presto, there it was on the computer but still with no referral to the paper notes! So how can going private be getting a made up report any more than going via the NHS or indeed any more 'made up' than an ATOS report?Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

We had coffee and biccies and sat in a big comfy sofa in this thickly carpeted quiet waiting room.
At the NHS GP it is hard seats odious kids have probably previously puked on. You get the fat, black legginged single mothers gobbing off about thier kids ailments and the old biddies that need their weekly pat on the head clogging up the system.
At the private surgery we arrived nearly 30 mins before the appointment but went in early.0 -

Up until reading your post I thought that using a private GP was a bit underhand but have now revised my opinion. Why not - as you say they have the same amount of information that any other doctor assessing your needs would have.0 -
It's tempting as my new GP is crap
I miss my old GP, to the point i'm considering moving back into the catchment area so i can see her again This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
