Is there no way to configure the iPhone (without a jailbreak) so that the tethering APN has the same settings as the normal APN, that way it doesnt matter which the phone dials; it's using the settings for the normal0

I'm quite supprised and impressed that Vodafone have employed a member of staff to watch these forums.
I've never used Vodafone personally before but +1 after seeing this.
Pfft yeah but they don't do anything.
I emailed Heidi a fortnight ago and had nada other than "We'll get back to you"Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Hi izools,
I sent an email to you on the 29th July regarding your recent issues. Could you check to see if you received this? If not, I am happy to resend it to you.
Kind regards,
Heidi

I'm puzzled about the statment that all new Vodaphone packages include tethering . . . I switched to an iphone with a new Vodaphone account from 18th July. I tethered my laptop once, merely to try out the option. I was charged £4.17.
Time to jailbreak - no way am I paying twice for my data use, particularly as I will get nowhere near 1Gig, tethered or otherwise0 -
Heidi
Can you advise whether tethering is indeed available or not and also if it is available on sim only plans.
Thanks0 -
Hi Javaman,
It sounds like you are on one of our older plans before we introduced Tethering into the data allowance. If you wish to change over to a new plan, drop me an email to the address here with WRT135 FAO Heidi in the subject. Please also include a link to this thread.
Hi mbeedub,
As mentioned above, on our new iPhone price plans (either on 18 or 24 months) Tethering is included in the data allowance. It is chargeable at £5 per 500MB on SIM Only plans. Feel free to email me if you need any further info.
Best wishes,
Heidi

I suspect Heidi is telling porkies. A conversation with a Vodafone Rep today 02/11/11 confirmed the tethering is for all new phone tariffs excluding iPhone!! :mad:0

I doubt she's lying. The sad truth with Vodafone is that they don't seem to know their head from their !!!!, they just make it up as they go along and there's no real way of knowing which employee has the right end of the stick and which one has got muddled. It could just as easily be the rep you spoke to today that's wrong (or maybe they changed their T&Cs again...). Bad staff training tbh, most inconsistent bunch I've ever dealt with.0

I purchased an iPhone 4 just over a year ago from a Vodavone shop. It cost me £600. I let my existing Vodafone contract carry on as a sim only contract. Called Vodafone today to ask if they could activate tethering for me which I'm willing to pay for. They refused saying that I have to have a contract with them where I got the phone at the same time. A scam to try and get me to buy another iPhone from them.
So now I have a £600 phone with a feature that Vodafone have disabled on purpose which I think is borderline illegal. What if I want to put a travel sim in and use tethering with that. My phone is my phone that I should be able to to with as I wish
Since I bought this phone on a credit card, it's time to ask for a refund because it won't do what it says on the box. Perhaps Vodafone will think again about forcing customers to take out a contract they don't need. What a cheek.0 -

You can try but as you suggest you bought the phone without the contract it is probably not relevent .
The phone is tethering capable, its just your contract won't allow it. As you didn't buy them together not sure how you'd get any resolution you want.0
