Now I had done so well - I did a meal plan on Tuesday in my lunchbreak up to the end of the month and all I need to get is salad stuff for my lunches and bread and meat for OH's sandwiches. However, I seem to have left it on my desk (again!) but I know it starts:
Saturday - Pub lunch and bacon sandwiches for tea
Sunday - HM Quiche and salad (and chips for OH) for dinner, lunch will be boiled eggs and soldiers
Monday - Roast chicken, veg (and roast potatoes and yorkshires for OH) with gravy
Will have to fill the rest in tomorrow! I seem to think that chicken and ham featured fairly frequently through the week though!
Edit: Brought the list home, so the rest of the week is:
Tuesday: Ham, egg and chips (and I might have some beans instead of some chips)
Wednesday: Chicken and ham lattice pie with herby new potatoes & veg
Thursday: Chicken curry
Friday: Bacon & cheese kievs (on offer at the butcher) with jacket potato & sweetcorn. My mum will be here Friday night to stay but she has to have her main meal at lunchtime because of medical problems, so I will give her a sandwich and feel guilty!
Breakfasts are yoghurt & fruit.
Lunches are salads for me, sandwiches for OH.
Snacks will be tropical(ish) fruit salad, lemon drizzle cake and possibly twinks if I get round to making them.0 -

Would it help to inspire more variety if instead of thinking I've got this, what shall I make, you work the other round and say I fancy Italian/Greek/Indian/American/Traditional and then work out which ingredients will fit which theme. So the chicken for example, could be an italian chicken and rice dish, a curry, or barbecued/spiced and fried, the sausages could be toad in the hole for traditional or cooked and sliced on a homemade pizza.
And yes, I do know that good old English sausages on a pizza do not make it Italian - but with a bit of thyme and oregano I'd swing it!0 -
Monday - BBQ pork steak with smoky corn
Tuesday - pasta with leeks and peas
Wednesday - staying at my sisters
Thursday - going to Thorpe Park
Will eat at hotel
Friday - not sure what time we'll be home so won't plan anything
Saturday - [STRIKE]chicken fajitas[/STRIKE] taking my dad and stepmum out for an indian
Sunday - [STRIKE]beef stew with dumplings[/STRIKE] borlotti bean bake
Two new recipes, one should have been done this week but have shifted things around.Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

How about coming up with 14 meals that you know everyone likes to some extent, then just rotating them; it's not quite as bad as, "It's Tuesday it must be bangers and mash" but at least you'll always have an idea of what you're doing and what to buy - I find that doing this means that I always have only the herbs & spices etc that I actually use, not a load of strange smelling things with a best before 2001 date cluttering up the cupboard!
Maybe a list of 'chicken' meals (If you haven't tried it yet, ChocClare's Chinese chicken {the 'tough' thread} is excellent), a list of 'mince' meals etc. A bit of time spent hunting through cookery books or the BBC Food website will probably save you loads of time in the future.
For leftover veg/ham/sausage a fritatta is always good.
I'm sure you'll get loads of great suggestions from the OSers.0 -
How about:
Chilli-con-carne & rice, served with tortilla crisps and sour cream (using beef mince and doing double portions, seperate in half before you add the kidney beans and transform other half of meat into a bolognaise sauce for later in the week)
Moroccan Lamb (using lamb mince) served with salad and ciabbata
Roast chicken & trimmings
Turkey burgers or turkey kebabs with chips/jacket pots
Fish, chips and peas
Sausage & mash
Lasagne or spaghetti bol using frozen sauce made earlier
:j Mortgage Free!! )Generally trying to cut back where possible :j0
