Even the name of this dish would be a huge step forward.

It's quite possibly that she made up this dish herself, so it may not have an official name ;)

Why not try recreating it yourself :T Make a white sauce with some cream, and that may be close to what you're after.

    Hi Triker,

Many thanks for the link. This is definately the closest recipe yet, however, my gran didn't brown the chops then add them to the veg, it all went in together.

As Penolope says, it might well be one of her own recipes. I am experimenting as I go along, but I have created some horrors along the way. :rotfl:

    Thanks to all

    Hi Penny,

    Many thanks for that. :T

I am constantly experimenting as I go along, but I haven't tried the white sauce with cream. Sounds like I'll be busy tomorrow.

    Thanks to all

I think the chops probably stood on leeks,if you cut them up into rings and all the green top it does look very green.

    Hi Zarazara,

I never thought of leeks, so that is definately worth a try. I will add it to my neverending list of variations to experiment with.

To be honest I still think it was cabbage, but I was young at the time, so it could have been leeks.

I should have said that my gran was Scottish and that she was quite fond of her leeks (grew them herself amongst other things), made a fantastic potato and leek soup. I have tried to replicate it and got very close, but I just can't quite find the missing element.

    Thanks to all again,

As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing pork chop thread which may give you more ideas :D

  • Thanks for all of your suggestions.

Following everybody's ideas and suggestions, I have made five different dishes now:

    Pork Chops -
    With leeks
    With tin of mushroom soup
    With cream of chicken soup
    With onion soup mix
    With white sauce and cream

Sorry to say that while they were all edible, they didn't come close to my granny's dish.

Further ideas and suggestions are really welcome and thanks to all who have tried to help so far.

I've tried a seaarch but couldn't find a thread. I've taken pork chops out of the freezer for tomorrow's tea but I haven't decided what to do with them yet. Does anyone have any suggestions? The only potatoes I have are baby rooster ones and a few new potatoes. I have loads of herbs and spices too. Fresh veg is a bit limited, I only have carrots but I have frozen green beans and sweetcorn.
