    I've had a look through and yes, it's just a -1, -2, 03 so cannot block a new buyer.

Yes, a new buyer is doing this activity. Probably to put us off trying to sell the item on there. Don't you need a cedit card to open an account these days?

Sorry to have got that wrong. You can block a specific user by their ebay name though...but that won't stop the same person bidding under a new account.

And you can cancel bids if you think they are suspicious, but you have to tell ebay why.

Can also potentially decrease your market. Some buyers like to buy several items from the same seller, or even from different sellers, and then pay all at once. I used to use immediate payment required and then switched it off after reading something similar to what I am typing and saw a marked increase in sales, including people who would pay after a few days.

Exactly right; you can't offer combined postage discounts if you select immediate payment required, which may lose you customers.

There is an option to block bidders under a certain feedback score (think it might be 5?) who don't have a credit card on file, which should be effective for 'fake' accounts.

Why do you have to wait weeks to relist? I thought it was 4 days to open an NPB now and another 4 to close it?

Well yes you can. All my listings are BIN, immediate payment, and I've done it. Postage is not subject to ebay fees, so a small refund via paypal sorts it out. One line of text in the listings is all that's needed.
Immmediate payment is the only way to sort this out.

I believe he was referring to using ebays automated combined postage discounts. After all we all know that many buyers don't bother reading listing descriptions and your one line of text is likely to be completely ignored by many!

I don't think this fits the OP's problem though. In his situation, one item that he wants rid of, the solution is immediate payment.
It's a pointless discussion, as people will always believe what they want to believe. I switched to immediate payment and had no drop in sales, so it suits me. It's also pointless to have the "you can do this or that" comments, because you can't block new buyers (quite rightly).

OK, you can REFUND after payment. However I would say at least 25% of my buyers make multiple purchases, so it's a no-go for me (plus my account spreadsheet would be about twice as long).

Immediate payment may suit some, and not others; I felt that if you are going to advise someone to use it you should at least point out the pitfalls.

Thanks for the posts, I didn't mean to cause an arguement, LOL.

We want to sell it on auction rather than BIN so this is why we could not have the immediate payment option.

Thinking about it though I might put it on for £10 less than the other chap but with 'offers' though and see what happens as that would make us cheaper than him - can you do this though if it is immediate payment? I wold not have thought so. People are not going to pay more than they do him so as long as we are cheaper we should be OK.

Also, don't I have to have a business account to accept the payment though? I could do this as I have Paypal for my business too but I'll just take then payment out as a personal payment rather than a sale as it is a one off.

Why does it take weeks to relist? A week to give them to pay, then they fob you off so you give them another few days, and another few days, before you realise you've been a muppet and they are not going to pay and then you have to do the NPB, but I cannot relist now else I'd not get the credit back and the fee for listing is about £2.50. So that is why it takes a couple of weeks to relist. add onto that the time listed to start with and the time it takes for auction 2 to end, then you've got 5 weeks when you could of got rid of it after 1.

I'll just put a note saying due to timewasters I've got immediate payment, please ask if you want to make payment another way and I'll just be VERY wary of a bidder that is 0 rated and not change it for them.

    Thanks all.

In your opinion. Perhaps the rest of us are happy to continue discussing it which is what forums are all about. If it bothers you that much, no-one is forcing you to join in any of these discussions.

Good for you. Plenty of others have seen the opposite effect.

Most of us have already said that you can't block new buyers - the discussion was about potential alternative options. Again, if you find them pointless, why join in?

    It's just a healthy discussion :)

That's one way to do it; and surely it's cheaper to list it BIN? You could even try both BIN and Auction, see how each one goes.
