  • Yes you can
  • Yep, as long as you qualify under your councils own conditions you can have both.. Most councils require high rate mobility but since you already have a motorbility car I can assume you get that so you shouldn't have a problem with getting your bus pass.

My local council's website says you can't have one if you have a motability vehicle.
Best to check as various councils obviously have different rules.

Which council? Surely having the car would make no difference because they could say you get DLA therefore you don't need a free bus pass?
Do they stop elderly people with cars having it too?

my council is the same too. i think their reasoning is that if you are so disabled that you get HRM, then youre probably too disabled to use public transport much!

they consider dial-a-ride to be the alternative for thiose who son't drive.

So what about journeys that are too far to drive but where you could manage with a lift to the bus stop? relieve some of the pressure on community transport.

i think theyre trying to get value for money. the councils have to pay for the 'free' bus passes and i suppose they try to limit them to people who are going to get the best use of them.

nothing is ever ideal, but there isnt a money tree in the councils garden (or if there is theyre keeping very quiet about it lol)

No of course not, elderly people [ non DLA ] with cars don't get a free car / free car tax / free repairs / free tyres / free disabled bays / free crossing toll bridges / free congestion charging / free parking meters / etc from the taxpayers of the UK. :D

But the most I see are happy driving cars way too big for them and while moaning about fuel costs are buying £40 bottles of brandy and whiskey in Sainsburys. While demanding my OH gets out of the blue badge parking WHILE we are trying to get his wheelchair out of the car then they go and park in the bay next to us, make comments and wander into the store with no damn badge because "we can park there, we are old".:p

Oh and not all disabled people get free bridge crossing. If we want to go to Plymouth we have to book in advance to get over the Tamar Bridge! No "let's go to Plymouth instead of Exeter" days for us!

Then what about someone disabled who doesn't use motabiility but has, say a company car plus their DLA?
    A bit screwed methinks!
