ADVICE URGENTYLY NEEDED! what should I do?

hi everybody,

Ive got a bit of problem, and really dont knwo what to do. Im skint and want to applyed for housing benefit, but do anybody know <<<<<<<<whats the amount of income per month I cannot exceed to get it?>>>>>
the problem is ive got 1 bedroom flat and pay 800 + bills, got the car which is expensive as well... + my mum to support, she lives with me. but Im renting my other room so we live in one! its sooo uncomfortable! but I have £400 per month from my tenant. all together Ive got income of 1,100 at the moment (dont even ask me how I cope with everything, dont know!)

Ive got lots of debits so im starting new job, and it should give me extra £750 per month but im gonna work 8h per day/5 days a week. I think it will be too much to get housing! coz all together it comes to £1,850 per month! if I get rid of my tenant Im gonna have £1,450 (- car insurance, gives about 300 per month for food and all for 2 ppl) then its not enough! AND IM WORKING. so maybe I shouldn`t go to work and have more chances for housing, if so, ending up with the same money!

WHATS THE POINT OF ME WORKING 8HRS A DAY IF I CAN GET HOUSING AND END UP WITH THE SAME MONEY?

Im so confused, need time to work on my own business and Im in need a bit of space for myself! dont know what to do and need to inform housing about my changes ASAP. plz anybody, I need advice, WHAT WOULD U DO?!

How much does your mother contribute to the household?
Benefits don't take your debts into account.

With £1850 income a month you will not get any help with benefits. Your debt and car are your own doing so theres no way the government is going to help you because alot of your income goes on these. You are not skint. Most dont even get that much per month. Think yourself lucky. Your mum should be paying her own way too.
Theres no point saying not to work either as if you leave your job you will be sanctioned from recieving JSA for 26 weeks, so no income there. And even when you then get back on it your £400 tenant income will be taken into account which will prob mean still no JSA. And for these £800+ bills per month car etc how will you pay for them?? As £64 per week wont get you very far
  • My question would be...is the car essential?

    You've got a 1 bed flat.

You live with your Mum and you rent the 'other room' out.

How does that work if it's only got 1 bed?

Where do you and your Mum sleep?

Doesn't your Mum give you money?

Can you not move somewhere cheaper?

    sell the car

rent a room, not a flat

let your mum also rent a room and claim HB if she is not working

sorted! I think you're living beyond your means and need to cut back a bit
    Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.
  • Why do you support your mum?
Do you rent or own your flat?
Does your insurance co/landlord/mortgage company know you are subletting?

Work 8hrs a day 5 days a week? That's the real world, I'm self employed and do 10 hrs 7 days a week and still need tax credits because I'm lucky if it breaks even.

Without knowing what bills you pay out on you may be able to cut back on food. Our shopping bill is £400 for 6 of us. (And yes I feel blooming well smug and self-righteous over that because that includes cleaning stuff and toiletries)

Is this OP taking the mickey?
Does she want people on less money who pay tax, help to support her?

Why does she have no income from her Mother? No pension? No benefits?
She also seems to think that working 8 hours a day is hardship. Ask the unemployed, or the elderly who may have worked 10hrs a day what they think.

And she has a car too? Mickey taking!

You say you have a one bedroom flat - I take it you OWN the flat and have a mortgage? It must be your own property if you are renting out a room!

As someone else has said if you have a 1 bedroom flat how is your mother staying with you AND renting a room out? So 3 people living in a 1 bedroom flat?!

    Something doesn't sound right.

Go to the Debt Free wanabee board to understand how to manage your debts. Download the MSE budget planner on the free tools section to identify your outgoings and actual income.

No-one here can help you as you haven't identified the debts you have and their repayment, your age (to determine basic info on housing benefit), your mother's status (income/benefits), your housing status (tenant/homeowner).

The Turn2us online benefit calculator will help you identify your benefit entitlements (which are likely to be low or nil) if you earn £1850 per month, plus £400 from a lodger. If you are entitled to low or no benefits, then pretty much you've got to sort out your debts and reduce your living expenses (but it sounds like you have to do this anyway since you made a hasty decision to cram a lodger into your property). There's no magic bullet from the state purse for those who can't manage their money - your debts and lifestyle is irrelevant to benefit entitlements.

"WHATS THE POINT OF ME WORKING 8HRS A DAY IF I CAN GET HOUSING AND END UP WITH THE SAME MONEY?" Can I ask why do you think you would be better off on JSA of £65 per week rather than earning £462 to £562 per week?!! Is your mother contributing to household expenses?
