Why would you put a case in a box? Just put the gear straight in the box, it reduces the weight in the box and can be easier the lifting (potentially) heavy cases up into the box.

Another option could be a tow bar and small trailer.

Usually because mine is full of dead spiders, and the odd snail. And I can't reach it to pack the clothes, but I can throw a suitcase in and out.
The suitcases are hard Samsonite ones, so they're waterproof, if the box ever leaks.

Because it makes it far simpler to load and unload.

Arriving at my destination in pooring rain and doing 15 journeys with handfulls of clothes up to my room on the 12th floor would not be my idea of a good start to the holiday - or put the clothes in a case and do it in 1 trip.

We have a roofbox and bars for our family car and it's great. Even better is that we bought them both off Ebay for about £80. The cost new was in excess of £300 and I've no doubt we could sell them on Ebay for over £80 tomorrow.

Renting a car like a Galaxy (why?), would set you back about six hundred pounds, for two weeks. A box and a set of bars about three or four hundred at the most.

    I can hire a Vauxhall Zafira for £343.86 for 2 weeks. :)

And I can buy a roof box and bars for less than that. :)

I would suggest £250 - £700+ depending on quality and size of the box.

    I've got a Zafira, and a 500l+ roofbox, and a trailer.
    Maybe I need a Transit.
    Or a Cargo

. . . . and I got original Ford Roofbars and a Kamei roofbox (AutoExpress Best Buy) for less than £100 off Ebay. All in great condition and could easily sell them on Ebay for more than what I paid - cost to me if I chose to sell them after 1 use £0. Definately cheaper than hiring a bigger car.

Halfords have 50% off selected top boxes when you buy any roof bars at the moment.
