Vodafone have stolen £400 from me!

Vodafone have taken over £400 out of my account in one almighty !!!!-up. I upgraded half way through the month & they had to charge me a month and a halfs rental on that for my next bill & when someone input all those details it sent the system into retard mode & charged me one and a half times for all the phones I have on the account (x 4) – they have credited my Vodafone account but they will not put it back into the bank account they took it from - I have screamed at them and no budging, had to give my kids bacon sarnies for their dinner last night _pale_:sad:

Am thinking about calling them back & threatening them with the police cos they can't surely take money out of my account that I don't actually owe them in error & refuse to credit it back to the same account?? I can't access the money in my Vodafone account so they may as well have stolen it! Help!

    It's not stolen it's a mistake.

Call them back and ask for it to be returned, or call you bank and get the DD reversed.

Remember the person at the call centre you will be talking to DID not have anything to do with it. Shouting abuse at them or threatening police won't make them feel more inclined to help you. They may not be able to do it depending on the computer systems level of access but be polite and calm and they should be able to sort it ut or pass you to someone who can.

Good luck with that - the police love timewasters...

How did they take the money? was it by Direct Debit? - if so, raise the matter with your bank.

If you paid by Direct Debit, you can invoke the Direct Debit guarantee.

    Call your bank.

Are you joking? Have you ever dealt with our police?

As adviced above, contact your bank, quote DD guarantee and ask for all the extra charges to be refunded immideately.
Then try again to sort this out with Vodaphone. If you are lucky, their representatives here will reply and help you. They seem to be the only bright people in their CS staffed with idiots.

    Hi AvgGal,

I'm sorry to hear about this but thanks for making us aware of it.

Generally speaking we should be able to request for the amount which has been adjusted to be returned to your bank account via BACS so I'm not really sure why you've been advised otherwise.

However, it's worth bearing in mind that the refund can take in the region of ten working days. As such, and in the likelihood you'll needs the funds returning sooner, making an indemnity claim via your bank, as suggested already, would be the way to go.

In this instance your bank will reimburse your bank account with the amount initially debited and then notify us separately about this which will result in the payment being returned and offset against the adjustment applied leaving the difference to be paid at a later date.

So we can make sure that everything is managed correctly could you email us your account details via the Contact us form on our website here quoting the code WRT135 - FAO Lee in the subject line?

Once sent you'll receive an automated reply with a reference number. To enable us to ensure that it reaches us could you update the thread with this and we'll get back to you as soon as we can?

    Best wishes,

    Lee

If things are so bad that you cannot feed your kids properly even via an emergency fund they perhaps you should think about flogging one of more of them phones?

A phone is a discretionary spend, feeding your kids is not.....

...Not to mention that she has to close 1-2 accounts instead of upgrading early and paying "month and a halfs rental" charges.

That was my second thought after reading the OPs post, the first was "Police!?!" :rotfl: .

Seriously, just make an indemnity claim with your bank, they do them all the time, it's not a big deal. Next phone up Vodafone and calmly speak to them about it, don't make any mention of the police, courts, laws or anything.

Mistakes do happen, the person on the other end of the phone should have told you to make an indemnity claim, but if you were screaming at them about the police and feeding your kids they were probably trying to get you off the phone asap.
